Hip dysplasia, developmental dysplasia of the hip “DDH” or congenital dysplasia of the hip “CDH”, is a congenital or acquired deformation or misalignment of the hip joint, which is 97% preventable on early detection ..
-Not all hip dislocation are present at birth. But they all occur before the age of 3 months.
-Newborns have hypotonic muscles in the 1st 6 weeks to 3 months, thus not all cases of DDH can be diagnosed at that time. Diagnosis:
1) Clinical Examination
2) US
3) X-rays. Best time for treatment is in a newborn before 3 months period. It depends on the device and age of the patient. The goal is to:
1. Flex and abduct hips.
2. Reduce femoral head and maintaining it.
