World Health Organization Jordan Since 1985 WHO Jordan has been at the forefront of a number of different health initiatives and projects.

The WHO Representative’s Office in Jordan supports the Government and health authorities at central and local level in strengthening health services, addressing public health issues and supporting and promoting research for health. Physicians, public health specialists, scientists, social scientists and epidemiologists provide appropriate technical support and collaboration upon the request or acceptance of national authorities. As the lead health agency, WHO works with many partners to support countries in reaching their national health development goals and to ensure that its efforts are coordinated. Across the Region, these include United Nations agencies, humanitarian and development partners, donors, nongovernmental organizations, WHO collaborating centres and the private sector. For 27 years it has garnered scientific evidence, promoted global strategies for eradication, elimination or prevention, and identified potential outbreaks. WHO provides technical support to the Ministry of Health in Jordan to:

*support appropriate evidence-based national health policies, strategies and plans

*strengthen national human resources development, planning, production and utilization

*enhance knowledge transfer and management, institutionalization of mortality and morbidity systems

*develop a fair sustainable health financing system covering all of the population
support health promotion, disease prevention activities

*strengthen national emergency-preparedness plans and strategies. Though challenges still remain, WHO has become a well-established and successful health entity, striving to improve governmental health policy and promoting universal health care in Jordan.

اختُتم اليوم ملتقى عمّان لتمويل الصحة، بعد يومين من النقاشات القيّمة وتبادل الخبرات بين صنّاع القرار والخبراء من مختلف دول المنطقة حول سبل تعزيز استدامة تمويل الصحة والتقدم نحو التغطية الصحية الشاملة.
شهد الملتقى توافقًا واسعًا على أهمية الاستثمار في الرعاية الصحية الأولية كأساس لأنظمة صحية مرنة تتمحور حول الأفراد.
شكرًا لجميع الشركاء والمنظمين والمشاركين على مساهماتهم في إنجاح هذا الحدث الرائد.



The Amman Health Finance Exchange concluded today after two days of insightful discussions and knowledge sharing among policymakers and experts from across the region on advancing sustainable health financing and Universal Health Coverage.
Participants emphasized the critical role of investing in primary health care as the foundation for resilient and people-centered health systems.

Jordan hosts the first Amman Health Finance Exchange, bringing together policymakers and experts from across the region to share innovations and experiences in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Bdour, Minister of Health, and in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Jordan, the World Bank, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Global Fund, the forum highlights Jordan’s leadership in placing primary health care at the heart of UHC reforms.

في لقاء جمع ممثل منظمة الصحة العالمية في الأردن، الدكتورة إيمان الشنقيطي، برئيس الجامعة الأردنية، معالي الأستاذ الدكتور نذير عبيدات، جرى بحث سبل تعزيز التعاون في مجالات التعليم الصحي والبحث العلمي ومقاومة الميكروبات للمضادات الحيوية.

وتناول اللقاء التعاون القائم بين الجانبين لدعم برامج الوقاية من العدوى وترشيد استخدام المضادات الحيوية في مستشفى الجامعة الأردنية، وبحث إمكانية إنشاء مركز تميز في ترشيد استخدام المضادات الحيوية بالتعاون مع منظمة الصحة العالمية، ليكون مركزاً رائداً على مستوى الأردن والمنطقة.



In a meeting between WHO Representative to Jordan, Dr Iman Shankiti, and H.E Professor Nathir Obeidat, President of the University of Jordan, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in health education, research, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The meeting highlighted ongoing joint efforts to enhance infection prevention and control (IPC) and antimicrobial stewardship programs at UOJ Hospital and explored the establishment of a WHO-designated Antimicrobial Stewardship Centre of Excellence, positioning the University of Jordan as a leading institution in this field nationally and regionally.

التقت ممثل منظمة الصحة العالمية في الأردن، الدكتورة إيمان الشنقيطي، سعادة السفير الشيخ فهد بن عبدالرحمن العجيلي، سفير سلطنة عُمان لدى المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية.
جرى خلال اللقاء بحث سُبل تعزيز التعاون بين الجانبين في مجالات تقوية النظم الصحية، وسلامة المرضى، والتحول الرقمي في القطاع الصحي، إلى جانب تعزيز التضامن الإقليمي من أجل تحقيق الصحة للجميع.



WHO Representative to Jordan, Dr Iman Shankiti, met H.E. Sheikh Fahad Bin Abdul Rahman Alojaili, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in health system resilience, patient safety, digital health innovation, and regional solidarity to advance health for all across the region.

بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة وهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة،أكملت منظمة الصحة العالمية تدريبًا لمنسقي النوع الاجتماعي في الوزارة خلال شهر أكتوبر، بهدف تعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين والمعايير الأخلاقية في بيئة العمل في مراكز الصحة الأولية، وتمكينهم من قيادة جهود التوعية وتحسين تقديم الخدمات المستجيبة للنوع الاجتماعي. وقد تم تمويل هذا التدريب من قبل الاتحاد الأوروبي ضمن برنامج "تعزيز الوصول إلى خدمات الرعاية الصحية الأولية ذات الجودة للاجئين السوريين والمجتمعات المضيفة في الأردن".



In collaboration with Ministry of Health and UN Women, WHO Jordan conducted a training for Gender Focal Persons in October to strengthen gender equality and ethical workplace standards at the Primary Care level. The training aimed at empowering MoH focal points to lead awareness efforts and enhance gender-responsive service delivery. This training was funded by the European Union as part of the “Strengthening Access to Quality Primary Health Care Services for Syrian Refugees and Host Communities in Jordan” programme.
