"Asian Clinical Trials Network for Cancers Project: ATLAS project" was launched in 2020 to support education and training, to install infrastructures for conducting clinical trials, and conduct multiple international collaborative studies.

Working from our Thailand APO office, Dr. Sekino conducted an audit visit to our collaborating partners in Malaysia.
On July 29th, he visited the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) together with Dr. Jun Kitahara, Head of the PMDA Asia Office.
They discussed the current landscape of clinical research in Malaysia and explored opportunities for collaboration.
Thank you, Dr. Wan Zamaniah and the entire UMMC team, for the warm welcome. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to work together with you on the ATLAS Project.

タイ・バンコクにあるAPOオフィスに勤務する関野先生が、マレーシアの連携機関への監査訪問を行いました。
7月29日には、PMDAアジアオフィス長の北原淳先生とともに、University Malaya Medical Centre（UMMC）を訪問。
マレーシアにおける臨床研究の現状について意見交換を行い、今後の連携の可能性についても議論しました。
Dr. Wan Zamaniah先生をはじめ、UMMCの皆さまに温かく迎えていただき、心より感謝申し上げます。
ATLASプロジェクトを通じて、今後も共に取り組んでいけることを嬉しく思います。

Thank you to everyone who joined the ATLAS Monthly Webinar on July 29.🎉 With over 100 registrants, the session focused on "Locally Advanced Re**al Cancer"
We were honored to have Dr. Ekaphop Sirachainan from Ramathibodi Hospital, Thailand as the facilitator, and welcomed Dr. Keeratikarn Boonyawan, Bumrungrad International Hospital, Thailand, and Dr. Yasuyuki Takamizawa, National Cancer Center Japan, as speakers.
The session featured active discussions and valuable insights into advancing therapeutic development through regional academia-regulatory collaboration. 🌏Thank you once again for your participation and support!

MASTERKEY Asia – 4th Investigators Meeting | June 5, 2025
As part of the ATLAS Project, the 4th MASTERKEY Asia Investigators Meeting took place on June 5, 2025, bringing together investigators and collaborators from across Asia to align strategies, share progress, and strengthen research efforts in rare cancers.
✨ A key milestone of this meeting was the official launch of the LMS (Leiomyosarcoma) cohort, designed to collect clinical data from patients with incurable or metastatic LMS across Asia. This cohort, coordinated in collaboration with the Sarcoma and Rare Cancer Group, chaired by Dr. Tom Chen from National Taiwan University Hospital, aims to deepen our understanding of treatment patterns and outcomes in this underrepresented population.
With a target of 100 enrolled cases by March 2026, this initiative reflects the growing power of our regional network to conduct impactful, collaborative cancer research!

At the 46th Annual Meeting of the Society for Clinical Trials held on May 21, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, an invited session titled “Overcoming challenges in rare cancers: Leveraging registry data and innovative trial designs” featured key insights from Japan.
Three speakers from the National Cancer Center Hospital, Japan, were invited to present the achievements of the MASTER KEY Project, a multi-stakeholder platform for accelerating treatment development in rare cancers.
• Chair: Dr Nakamura
• Dr. Mizoguchi introduced the overall strategy for treatment development.
• Dr. Okuma presented clinical trial initiatives for rare cancers.
• Dr. Mizusawa shared statistical perspectives with examples from Japan-led clinical trials.
It was a valuable opportunity to raise international awareness of the MASTER KEY Project.

2025年5月21日、カナダ・バンクーバーで開催された「第46回臨床試験学会年次総会」にて、招待セッション「Overcoming challenges in rare cancers: Leveraging registry data and innovative trial designs（希少がんの課題を乗り越える：レジストリデータと革新的な試験デザインの活用）」が行われました。
本セッションには、国立がん研究センター中央病院から3名の先生が登壇し、日本発の希少がん治療開発プラットフォームであるMASTER KEY Projectの取り組みを紹介しました。
• 座長：中村先生
• 溝口先生より、MASTER KEY Projectにおける治療開発の全体像を報告。
• 大熊先生は、プロジェクト内での希少がん臨床試験の実施状況について発表。
• 水澤先生は、日本主導の試験を例に、統計的な観点からの知見を共有しました。
多くの方にMASTER KEY Projectを知っていただく良い機会となりました。

We had the honor of welcoming Dr. Yi-Jen Chen (third from the right in the photo) from Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) to the National Cancer Center Hospital (NCCH).
Dr. Chen was introduced to the MASTER KEY Asia project.
In addition, TVGH and National Cancer Center Hospital (NCCH) discussed enhancing collaboration not only in clinical research but also in patient care through mutual exchange among researchers and clinicians.

台北栄民総医院（TVGH）の Yi-Jen Chen教授（写真右から3番目）を国立がん研究センター中央病院にお招きし、MASTER KEY Asia プロジェクトについてご紹介しました。
また、TVGHと国立がん研究センター中央病院は、研究者・医療者の交流を通じて、がん領域における臨床研究および診療の連携強化について意見交換を行いました。

On July 18, Dr. Harumasa Nakamura, Director of the Clinical Research Support Division, Clinical Research & Education Promotion Division at the National Center Hospital, National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, visited APO.
We had a meaningful discussion on the implementation of international research. Dr. Sekino joined in person, and Dr. Terada participated online from Japan.
As fellow National Centers for Advanced and Specialized Medical Care, we hope to continue fostering strong collaboration moving forward.

7月18日、国立精神・神経医療研究センター病院臨床研究・教育研修部門臨床研究支援部部長の中村治雅先生が、APOに来訪されました。
国際研究の実施について意見交換を行い、有意義な時間となりました。当日は関野先生が対面で、寺田先生が日本からオンラインで参加しました。
同じ国立高度専門医療研究センター同士として、今後も連携を深められることを願っております。

On July 16, we had the honor of welcoming Prof. Yoshihiko Takubo, Vice President of the GLOBIS University, to the National Cancer Center for a special lecture titled:
“Driving Organizational Change – Action Strategies for Those Who Won’t Give Up.”
Mr. Takubo shared practical and thought-provoking insights on leadership that helps turn personal aspirations into action within organizations.
With over 100 participants joining both onsite and online, the session featured dynamic discussions and inspired many attendees to reflect on their own professional practices.
The lecture was planned and moderated by Dr. Nakamura, Director of the Department of International Clinical Development, who is a GLOBIS alumnus and previously attended Mr. Takubo’s lectures. This connection made the event possible.
We are pleased to share a photo of Prof. Takubo and Dr. Nakamura after the lecture.

7月16日、国立がん研究センターはグロービス経営大学院副学長の田久保善彦先生をお招きし、「組織を動かす ― やりたいことを諦めない人のための行動戦略」をテーマにご講演いただきました。
組織の中で自らの思いを実現するためのリーダーシップについて、実践的かつ示唆に富んだ内容をお話しいただきました。現地とオンラインを合わせて100名を超える方々にご参加いただき、活発な質疑応答が行われるなど、参加者それぞれが自身の業務に照らして深く考える機会となりました。
講演の企画および当日の司会進行は、国際開発部門長の中村先生が務められました。中村先生はグロービス経営大学院の卒業生であり、田久保先生の講義を受けていたご縁から、今回の講演が実現しました。
講演後のひと幕として、田久保先生と中村先生の2ショットを写真でご紹介します。
