I truly cherish the connections that are created through the retreat.

Even after the program ends, I sometimes receive little life updates from past guests — through an email, a message, or even a phone call.

And one of the happiest things for me is seeing guests who met during the retreat staying in touch, meeting up somewhere else in the world, and even visiting each other.

Knowing these connections continue beyond the retreat brings me so much joy and gratitude.

Missing you all!!

Every retreat, there is always a moment when I laugh so hard I almost cry.

There are also quiet moments of tears, when guests and locals share their life stories and something deep connects beyond language.

There are moments of simple joy too — sitting around the table, tasting Japanese dishes made with the freshest local produce, discovering new flavours together, and smiling over something as small as a warm bowl of rice or miso soup🍙✨

Memories that quietly settle in my heart and remain there forever.

This is what makes each retreat so special to me.

Every time our local Buddhist monk visits the retreat, he quietly becomes everyone’s favourite person.

He joins us to guide meditation and share stories about Buddhism, but it’s not only his knowledge that touches people — it’s his gentle presence. So friendly, sincere, and kind-hearted, he has a way of making everyone feel calm and welcome just by being there.

Guests often open up to him, ask questions freely, and leave with lighter hearts.

Thank you always, Yano-san. We truly cherish the time you spend with us and the warmth you bring to every retreat.

November guests from last year — I can still hear their laughter in my ears.

The Japanese plant dye workshop with them was such a joyful time and full of creativity🌸🌿🍂

Thank you, as always, to our local sensei for sharing your knowledge and passion with us.

Our retreat meals are always a highlight — and we’re so grateful for the wonderful reputation they’ve received from guests.

We use fresh local produce, and some ingredients even come straight from our staff’s family gardens to the table.

With Japan’s rich seasonings like soy sauce and miso, and unique vegetables such as lotus root and burdock root, every meal is full of flavour, nourishment, and seasonal goodness.

Guests are often surprised by how many creative ways there are to enjoy tofu too! And in our Japanese cooking class, we learn hands-on and cook lunch together — it’s always fun, delicious, and full of laughter.

⛩️✨
Although shrines and temples are sacred spaces, I never felt they were “special places” when I was growing up in Japan — they were simply part of everyday life.

I remember seeing kids playing freely on the grounds, and I did the same.

Playing hide and seek, collecting colourful leaves, and even sitting in the local shrine with my Pokémon cards…

It wasn’t a place you only visit on special occasions. It felt close, familiar, and always welcoming — somewhere you could stop by anytime.

That’s why it’s always such a joy for me to take our retreat guests to the local shrines and temples in the village, and share this gentle part of Japanese life with you.

🍵🌿✨
Did you know green tea trees can live for hundreds of years?

Did you know their flowers are white?

Did you know regular green tea is grown under full sun, while tea for matcha is grown under shade?

And did you know tea plants are part of the camellia family?

I truly love hearing these little stories about tea plants — and even more, learning about daily life in the tea villages from our local tea teacher.

Every conversation reminds me how deep and beautiful tea culture really is.
