Dr. Nakao attended the 72nd JALAS annual conference in Nagoya for updating knowledge about regulations of the animal experiment and care and use of laboratory animals. We understand that performing animal experiments is socially sensitive, but we also understand that laboratory animals are protected by well-trained specialists and multiple regulations and are humanely treated. We as specialists have to keep learning and updating the knowledge of this field for better medical research and animal welfare.

APPW 2025, a physiology meeting in partnership with societies of anatomy and pharmacology, was held in Makuhari Messe, Chiba this week. Senior, young, and leading scientists all gathered and enjoyed to be in exciting lectures and to have energetic discussions. These inspired us to proceed research we have been working on more. Many thanks all for the time shared with us on site.

Another elegant report from a recent Nature Communications illustrates a gene expression landscape of the fetal human sinus node. The researchers also discovered a cell surface marker CD34 for the core population of the heterogeneous pacemaker tissue.

Lim et al. identify CD34 as a surface marker of the heart’s sinoatrial node pacemaker cells, enabling their isolation from stem cell differentiation cultures, advancing future disease modeling, drug discovery, and biological pacemaker applications.
