I just returned from another Shugendo training on Ominesan- the two day event gathers over 300 Shingon Buddhist monks commemorating the death of En-no Gyoja, the founder of Shugendo. Here, prayers are performed in the dead of night before we take the long ascent up the mountain. There is something truly special, otherworldly about Ominesan- a sacred practice place for over 1,300 years. It is regarded as a mandala womb of the Buddha mind. It was beyond words.

A photograph I made last year made the cover of a forthcoming book on Japan's mystic path by Shayne Dahl! An encouraging win for me and I can't wait to read the book! ⭐ Photographing this little known sect is an ongoing project, and I will join another training next month.

A family of Japanese monkeys on Yakushima Island. Yakushima is a remote, lush island designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site for its pristine nature. A very special place. We were surprised how close they let us get, Japanese monkeys seem more chill than other monkeys I've encountered.

Hiking up Mount Gassan - a sacred mountain in Yamagata which is associated with the afterlife, was a challenging but rewarding experience. Here a yamabushi blows into the traditional conch shell to make a loud sound which can be heard across the valley.

The first Yamabushi training exercise was to stand under a fierce and very cold waterfall on Yudono mountain for the length of time to chant the Heart Sutra, which requires real will power. We then hiked up further to a sublime, ancient Shinto shrine based around a natural onsen which I was not allowed to take photos of.

Hello, it is nice to meet you!
I am Adrian Cox - Breathworker, Yoga teacher and Mentor/coach in Bangkok Thailand, Kobe and Osaka Japan. My work is all about mind-body and spirit. I combine over 20 years of teaching Connected Breathwork, Yoga and NLP. As the founder of Yoga Elements, a highly regarded and venerable school of yoga in Bangkok since 2001, I have been teaching all kinds of people individually and in groups all around the world for over 20 years.
WHAT I TEACH
Connected Breathwork is a powerful technique of breathing paired with psychotherapeutic coaching. People who seek Connected Breathwork may be looking for healing of anxiety, depression, anger, stress and addictions or to improve sleep and breathing issues. Some come to Connected Breathwork to explore their spiritual dimension.
Breath & Alignment Yoga is my distillation of over 25 years of yoga teaching and practice. My method is grounded in “alignment-based vinyasa yoga” - a flowing, moving, breath-centered yoga with three of my own distinctions:
Breath Comes First: The sequences I use are firstly centered around the breath and work to develop the balance and symmetry of your body for more open breathing both on and off the mat
Effective Alignment: “Effective” means emphasizing awareness and making precise changes in each pose can lead to big improvements in your practice overall. When necessary, I slow the practice down so that awareness and Effective Alignment come first
The Aim To Transcend: In and around the physical practice of yoga I use rhythm, breath techniques, focus and chanting to encourage trance states of mind. Non-ordinary states of consciousness are inherently healing and can give us the opportunity to interrupt negative cycles of thought and emotion and give us new room to make positive changes
Connect with me for one-to-one sessions via Skype or in person in Kobe, Japan as well as Bangkok, Thailand!
