Babysitting + CPR Training for the McTureous/Courtney Community

Hello everyone, we’re bringing a Babysitting Training + CPR/First Aid class to the McTureous/Courtney community for youth ages 11–16.

This is a hands-on class designed to help youth build confidence when caring for younger children—whether that’s siblings, family friends, or future babysitting opportunities. Participants will learn practical caregiving skills and how to respond in emergency situations.

Topics include:
Safe care for children and infants
Feeding and diapering
Picking up and holding infants
Child safety and injury prevention
CPR/AED for adults and infants
Certifications included upon completion:

Babysitter’s Training Certificate (valid for 10 years)
CPR/AED Adult & Infant Certificate (valid for 2 years)

Last Thursday, the Okinawa American Red Cross had the opportunity to work with the Girl Scouts Brownies at Courtney Chapel for a hands-on safety session.

The Brownies learned:

How to build a basic first aid kit
What to do when someone is bleeding
How to perform hands-only CPR

It was a fun, engaging way to introduce lifesaving skills and help young people feel confident responding in an emergency.

This past Saturday, the Okinawa American Red Cross held a Basic Life Support (BLS) class at Kadena Air Base.

Several of our new instructors had the opportunity to practice teaching, while many community members successfully recertified their BLS credentials.

Basic Life Support certification is commonly required for healthcare professionals, first responders, childcare providers, coaches, and others in roles where emergency response skills are essential. These lifesaving skills help ensure trained individuals are ready to act when every second counts.

This year's Youth Executive Board (YEB) is talented, committed, fun, creative, passionate and all-around inspiring!

We have more than 100 Red Cross Clubs in the region (3,300 members at local high schools and colleges), and the 35 peer-elected youth leaders on the YEB are the "engine" behind our youth impact.

This photo was taken as they gathered for their kickoff meeting for the year this summer at our Baltimore office. The team had an opportunity to connect, collaborate and build teams for core committees: tech, recognition, communication, regional activities and event planning.

We are inspired by this next generation of Red Crossers!

Huge thank you to our Training Services Team.
