Self-actualization is not a destination, but a journey of becoming — where each step is fueled by the courage to be authentic, the wisdom to embrace growth, and the humility to serve a purpose greater than oneself.
First presented by humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow in the mid-20th century, self-actualization involves realizing and fulfilling one’s inherent potential, a drive to evolve, achieve, and become the best version of yourself. He defined it as those who are the most psychologically healthy and are cultivating a deeper understanding of who they are, what they value and how they live.
So, what does it truly mean to be self-actualized and how do we achieve this? Well, it’s up to you!
Everyone’s journey is different. I have always viewed it as a journey of continually embracing vulnerability, seeking out challenges, and consistently engaging in activities that align with your core beliefs and passions. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin, not driven by external validation but by an internal compass. Being courageous and living with integrity. Being aware of your strengths and limitations while embracing humility. There is no need to focus on competing with others as there is a focus on your own personal growth and well-being.
So, enjoy your journey and continue to be curious.
