On May 30, 2025, Professor Yasutoshi Kido, head of the Department of Virology and Parasitology at Osaka Metropolitan University and member of the Japanese initiative for Global Research Network &Link on Infectious Disease (J-GRID+), led a delegation of scientists from his laboratory and Africa on a working visit to the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS).
The delegation included:
From the Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Professor Dieudonne Mumba, Head of the Department of Parasitology at the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa,
- Professor Placide Mbala, Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health at the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa,
- Mr. Jacque Likofata, Director of the Provincial Laboratory of Public Health in Equateur Province.
From Kenya: Professor Jesse Gitaka, Head of the Center for Malaria Elimination at the Institute of Tropical Medicine at Mount Kenya University
From Nigeria: Professor Emmanuel Balogun, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
From his laboratory: Ms. Natsuko Kaku, lecturer, and Ms. Ryoko Asari, Ph.D. student.
During their visit, the group exchanged ideas with JIHS researchers on topics of mutual interest, primarily the management of infectious diseases and clinical trials.
The group also paid a courtesy visit to President Norihiro Kokudo, the president of the Japan Institute for Health Security, who expressed his willingness to strengthen research collaborations between the JIHS, the J-GRID+, and African researchers.
