Can’t believe this year went by so quickly! So many new visitors to .bliss.dept ! 💕 Thank you for helping me build this lovely community of such cool and fun and curious folks. Happy new year!
Next year will be the year of the horse. I like the Zen story of a man hurriedly riding through town on a horse and someone asks, “Where are you going?” The man replies, “Ask the horse!”. I think the story reminds us that our habit energy often leads us instead of our actual passion or intention. Sometimes these auto-pilot habits can be helpful, but they can also lead us to repeat unwise patterns and to even see them as safety or necessity. Maybe in the year of the horse, we can take time to notice which habits are serving us and which ones may need letting go. Of course change comes with time and exploration, not on any timeline.
In yoga and even on other philosophical paths, we are often compared to charioteers. The horses can be a variety of mind movements that we’d like to limit or control. I think it’s useful because if you’ve ever ridden a horse you’ll know you’re almost never completely in control, and the harder we fight for that, the more the horses will revolt. Instead we work with the thoughts, we observe and understand them, we learn to make peace with them and reduce the patterns that activate them. Of course many teachers say these things far better than I can in an insta post, but if any of this resonates with you, I’d love to work with you. If you’d like to just move your body without feeling like it’s punishment, I’d love to work with you. If you’re not sure where to start, but you’d like to start somewhere with yoga or fitness, guess what…I’d love to work with you. Let’s grow together.
Love,
Holly
