Sakura season is such a deep relationship with nature in Japan. There’s the waiting and anticipating of the blooming followed by a week of celebration under the flowering trees that brings people together to share time in the outdoors marveling. Then the experience of floating petals through the air in the letting go of beauty only to be followed by the vibrant rich greens of summer. Without fail this phenomenon occurs each year with humans reverent turn towards this blossom. It’s the witnessing of a true love affair. 🌸❤️✨

Tokyo, come unplug and get offline with us under the cherry blossoms! 🌸

Every year in early March thousands of people across the globe unplug from technology. Why? For quality human connection! ✨

Tokyo Unplugged Village is coupling our yearly gathering with the seasonal Japanese tradition of gathering under the cherry blossoms. Join us for HANAMI + HOBBY, a picnic gathering of hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and your hobby. Together we’ll enjoy food, snack, drinks and whatever hobby you’d like to bring: crafting, reading, drawing, knitting, board games, crossword puzzles, birdwatching, painting, napping and more. Join your Tokyo community and others around the globe in stepping away from your phones, laptops and computers and engage in connection with others and your environment.

This event will be held at Yoyogi Park on Saturday, March 28, 11am-2pm. Participants are responsible for bringing their own picnic or snacks, a blanket or picnic mat, and their personal hobby. Each registered participant will receive a complimentary Global Day of Unplugging phone knapsack for tucking your phone away in style!

REGISTRATION encouraged (registering will provide you with location details, and weather updates in case of cancellation)

Created and collaged what I call ‘The AWE Box’, a little adorned container for little treasures I find in the forest from time to time. Little finds that deserve to feel special and marveled. ✨

The Slow Life Experience

About Michelle...

Michelle has been teaching yoga and mindfulness for over ten years emphasizing the principles of slowing down and being present with the complex experiences of being human. Michelle's intersection with yoga and meditation came in her late twenties after being diagnosed with cancer and spending two years navigating balance in the midst of a life-threatening disease. In addition to battling a terminal illness Michelle has experienced trauma and loss in her own life. She credits yoga and mindfulness for giving her the tools to self-regulate and manage her stress in times of grief, fear, and vulnerability. Michelle believes her yoga and meditation practices have improved her ability to become a better listener of herself and others while also teaching her the humble practice of acceptance.

With a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling focused on somatic psychology for trauma, Michelle's style of teaching is trauma-informed, person-centered, and fully accepting of all individuals from all walks of life. Michelle has worked as a internationally certified yoga therapist both in private practice and in clinical settings with her focus primarily on clients who have navigated trauma, grief, and loss. This includes working with active duty military members and individuals who are living with spinal cord injury, brain injury, cancer, chronic and life-threatening diseases, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress.

Michelle specializes in training yoga teachers at all levels in their careers. She continues to provide trainings, workshops, and retreats in Asia and the United States in Yin Yoga, Trauma-Informed Yoga Teaching, Yoga Ethics, Mindfulness Practices, Somatic Practices, and Meditation.
