Last week, we visited the beautiful island of Kyushu for the second time this year to attend the 47th Annual meeting of the Japanese Neuroscience Society in Fukuoka-shi. Izawa-san, Joao-san, Amara-san, Takahashi-san and Matsumoto-sensei presented their posters. It was rather hot (up to 38C) through the week but we all enjoyed a fruitful time both at and after the meeting.

Here is this year's annual lab photo taken at lunch time on a gorgeous sunny Wednesday. We welcomed Hatsushi-san, Imai-san, Kumaki-san, Nohara-san and Tonoda-san as new members from April.
P.S. Sadly, six members are absent from this photo due to other commitments

Last week, Otsuki-san, Joao-san presented their posters at the 101st Annual meeting of the Physiological Society of Japan held in Kitakyushu-shi. The cherry blossoms were not in full bloom but we enjoyed the spring and their delicacies (and of course the science) in Kyushu .

It was graduation day at University of Toyama today. 4 graduate school members in our lab got their certificates. Congratulations to Iwama-san, Sato-san, Sharif-san (PhD in Medicine) and Joao-san (MS in Medical Science) !!

Nishimaru travelled to the lively and bustling city of Hanoi to attend the international scientific conference which was held on March 5th at the Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU) as their 75 year anniversary event. I was honored to meet the president and directors of VMMU and to give a talk at the meeting. As delegates of our university with Prof Takao, we were greeted with unbelievable kindness and hospitality by the host (Special mention to Tan-san for taking really good care of us during our stay). My personal highlight was to see my old colleagues/friends from the early years in Toyama.

3... and lastly but not least, Amar-san and Higuchi-san were
awarded the prestigeous "Excellent presentation award" at the 2023 RCIBS Poster Presentation!! Congratulations to both and keep up the good work!!

2. Iwama-san and Nishimaru attended the 12th meeting of the Japan Emotionolgy Society (第12回日本情動学会大会）in Kyoto. Iwama-san beautifully presented his PhD work there. Kyoto was very crowded.

Some updates from last month (in chronological order).

1. Higuchi-san and Setogawa-sensei attended the Society for Neuroscience meeting in Washinton DC. Higuchi-san presented her poster and had a great time there (as you can see in the photo).

Otsuki-san presented his poster at FAOPS2023 congress in Daegu, Korea yesterday. Thank you very much for Uta-sensei and everyone contributed to this work. More great things to come from Otsuki-san and the team soon!
