The Big Wisteria Festival is only about a week away!
The wisteria clusters seem to be growing little by little.
One-day bus tours departing from Kurume are also available on April 18 and 19.
You can efficiently experience the charms of wisteria and Yame in a day full of activities that only a bus tour can offer, such as the Big Wisteria Festival, lunch at a local tea house, and café time at a newly opened café on an old town street.
The bus tour will be conducted in Japanese, but international participants are welcome.

Can’t believe it’s the last day of March!! Finally, the Sakura are blooming! 🌸
We took a walk through town today to see them. Muryojurin temple has a Sakura tunnel and this weekend they also held a Marché with local shops, all you can drink sake, and even a bouncy house for kids!
Fukushima Hachimangu also had lovely decorations set up for the Sakura season. The Sakura bloom so suddenly and their beauty really is so fleeting! Tomorrow is the last day of nice weather (the forecast seems rainy for the rest of next week!) so if you have a chance, I recommend getting out tomorrow to a park or to one of these temples and enjoy the Sakura while you can!!! Spring has finally sprung!!

On Friday night my family had a party for my son’s graduation and birthday, my wife’s exam results and my oldest son going to the next grade in school. We chose Hana Yori Dango because everyone can eat something that they like. This is important because when you have a big family everyone always has different tastes. We chose some dishes that we could share, then everyone was always free to get things separately as well. It was a busy Friday, but the service is always good. I can’t wait until our next family get together. Try the restaurant out the next time you have a party!

It was my son’s birthday this month. He requested a realistic looking Tyrannosaurus rex on his cake and he wanted Japanese style with cream and fruit. I’ve made his cake myself the past couple of years in a more American style, but I wanted to get him what he requested! So I searched around and asked several cake shops in Yame and Clover was the one to really come through for us! The cake turned out so perfectly!!! And it was also reasonable and really delicious!
Definitely will request cakes again from them in the future!!

I have been driving past an area in Kurogi for years and years, but it’s only been recently that I started noticing a small flower park in the center of Kurogi. Is says that it has been there since 2012, but I don’t remember seeing it until recently. It is a nice area to sit down and take in the scenery for a little. Today my son and I decided to cycle over and check it out. If you have time on a beautiful day like today, check it out. I’m guessing they will have different flowers depending on the season.

There’s a restaurant in Obuchi that is known for its chanpon. They also prepare bentos, set lunches, for special occasions. March is graduation season in Japan, so naturally one of the schools that I join ordered a lunch set for after graduation. It had a variety of foods and was pretty filling. Next time I need to make the time to check out the restaurant. If you are in Kurogi, head over to Obuchi and check out Maihime.

Last week I stopped by Irori, in Joyo, for lunch. They have good prices and their food is good too. You can find something for every taste. I had the hamburg and karaage set, and it was delicious. With their separate rooms for groups we could enjoy our own time. The atmosphere is nice too. I recommend that you check it out if you’re in Joyo.

New ramen shop called Sanpuku! This shop is located on route 96 in Yame. There are tons of parking spaces and lots of seats inside. It’s tonkotsu style but not super thick or heavy — more of an “asari” or lighter style. Some tonkotsu can be very heavy and strong, but this is lighter so you could eat it everyday! 😆
The style of ramen is also a bit nostalgic — Showa era style ramen, but the actual building is fresh and new so it’s a nice combination. The shop has actually been around for a long time but they’ve built this new shop! Please check it out if you’re a ramen fan!

Cafe Hachi no Shizuku in Kurogi area of Yame. This Cafe is located in a bit of an isolated area / you need a car to get there, but the views are spectacular! They have a daily lunch menu, and the day we went was fried chicken. It was so juicy and really yummy! The side dishes and miso soup were also very good and I got sticky rice cooked in a leaf! Ahh it was all really good and the staff were friendly and kind. The cafe had a really relaxing atmosphere. They also offer massages here and acupuncture as well!!
