2026年1月26日、、UNICEF制作のドキュメンタリー映画「ガザの静かな脅威」の上映会を開催しました。
ポリオ根絶が単なるなグローバルヘルスの目標だけではなく、根絶の道義的義務について、心温まる対話が交わされたひとときとなりました🌏

早稲田大学の竹村和久先生による開会のご挨拶、そして監督兼プロデューサーのマリア・フェルナンデス・ラウレット氏からの力強いビデオメッセージを受け、私たちは世界ポリオ根絶推進計画（GPEI）における日本の役割と、私たち一人ひとりが共有する責任について理解を深めました。

上映後には、ガザ・イスラム大学のアブデルラウフ・エルマナマ先生が、ガザ地区におけるポリオおよびワクチンで予防可能な疾患について、現場からの包括的な知見を交えた非常に説得力のある基調講演を行いました。ガザからライブで参加した同氏は、聴衆の質問に答え、医療へのアクセスが阻害された場合に何が危機に晒されるのかを強調しました。

ガザ地区で懸命にワクチン提供のために活動するユーニス氏とフェイルーズ氏の体験は、この映画で終わらせてはなりません。ポリオは予防可能な病気であり、このような流行は私たちに強い行動を促す警鐘であるべきです。
引き続き、この重大な問題への認識を高め、広めていただけると大変うれしく思います🙏

On January 26, 2026, hosted a screening of ’s documentary “Gaza’s Silent Threat” at Waseda University’s Toyama Campus. It was an evening full of heartfelt and meaningful conversations about why polio eradication is not just a key global health goal, but a moral imperative 🌏

With opening remarks from Professor Kazuhisa Takemura and a powerful video message from director and producer Maria Fernandes Lauret, we reflected on Japan’s role in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and the responsibility we all share.

Following the screening, Dr. Abdelraouf Elmanama () of the Islamic University of Gaza (.ps) delivered a compelling keynote presentation on polio and vaccine preventable diseases, offering comprehensive insights from the ground. Joining us live from Gaza, he answered audience questions and underscored what is at stake when access to healthcare is obstructed.

The stories of Dr. Younis and Fairouz must not end with this film. Polio is preventable and outbreaks like this should elicit a strong call to action, so please continue to raise awareness and amplify this critical issue! 🙏

Liaison Senior Advisor Dr. Wrishmeen Sabawoon spoke at Polio no Kai on 11/24.

Dr. Sabawoon shared his personal journey from his hometown in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province, offering a rare and vivid look into the country’s rich history, culture, and geography.

He also provided an insightful overview of global and national polio eradication efforts, the GPEI, and the current situation in Afghanistan, one of the last two remaining polio-endemic countries.

A heartfelt thank-you to Polio no Kai for their warm welcome and for their unwavering commitment to polio survivors and eradication efforts.

11月24日、リエゾンのシニアアドバイザー、ウリシュミン・サバウヌ先生が「ポリオの会」の会定例会にて講演を行いました。

サバウヌ先生は、アフガニスタン・ナンガルハル州での原点から、同国の歴史・文化・地理を豊かに紹介し、普段はなかなか触れられないアフガニスタンの姿についてお話をされました。

さらに、世界およびアフガニスタン国内のポリオ根絶の取り組み、GPEIの概要、そして世界で2か国のみ残るポリオ常在国としての現状についても解説されました。

温かく迎えてくださったポリオの会の皆さま、そして素晴らしい演奏で会を締めくくってくださった馬淵一樹先生に、心から感謝申し上げます。

TICAD9で参加者は、 #ポリオ根絶 の現場を体験する機会を得ました 👓

横浜で2025年8月20-22日に開催された第9回アフリカ開発会議では、VR体験 「Polio’s Last Mile」 によって、参加者はザンビアの現場に入り、すべての子どもにポリオワクチンを届けるヘルスワーカーの奮闘を追体験しました。

横浜でポリオのない世界を想像してくださった皆さま、ありがとうございました 🌍

At the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) held in Yokohama during August 20-22, the immersive VR experience “Polio’s Last Mile” transported participants to Zambia, where they followed the journey of healthcare workers striving to vaccinate every child against polio.

コミットメントから行動へ：アフリカにおける #ポリオ根絶 のためのパートナーシップ強化 🌍

2025年8月20-22日に開催された第9回アフリカ開発会議（TICAD9）において、Liaisonと世界ポリオ根絶推進計画（GPEI）は政府関係者及び、民間企業、市民社会の方々を招き、日本のグローバルヘルスおよびポリオ根絶におけるリーダーシップを改めて確認しました。

🔑 セミナーのキー・メッセージ：
✅ ポリオ根絶はまだ可能ですが、今こそ迅速な行動が必要。
✅ 日本の政治的・財政的・技術的な支援は不可欠。
✅ ポリオ・サバイバーの声が示すように、ポリオは過去の病気ではなく、現在も進行中の課題です。

At the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) held during August 20-22, Liaison and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative convened leaders from government, civil society, and polio survivors to reaffirm Japan’s leadership in global health and polio eradication.

Key messages:
✅ Polio eradication is within reach, but urgent action is needed.
✅ Japan’s political, financial, and technical support remains vital.
✅ Survivor voices remind us that polio is not history, but a present challenge.

2025年8月20日（水）、世界ポリオ根絶推進計画（GPEI）とともにセミナーイベント「約束から行動へ：アフリカにおけるポリオ根絶のためのパートナーシップ強化」を横浜で開催される第9回アフリカ開発会議（TICAD 9）にて開催いたします。

本イベントでは、日本とアフリカの関係者をお招きし、日本が果たすポリオ根絶における国際的リーダーシップを強調しつつ、アフリカにおける変異型ポリオウイルス流行の根絶に向けた協力のあり方について議論します。

Interviews in Nagasaki ⑥

Last March, Liaison had the opportunity to interview a polio survivor living in Nagasaki. Here’s his story!📝

This survivor contracted polio at just 10 months old.
He shared that before the paralysis appeared, he felt pain as an early warning sign. His parents recalled that he would cry and scream in pain every time they changed his diapers.

Surprisingly, we learned that this early onset pain was not unique to him—several other polio survivors have reported experiencing the same early symptom.

He also described undergoing a bone transplant surgery, and remembered the loud knocking and grinding sounds during the surgery. He said it felt as if a carpenter was working inside his body👷🪚

長崎県でのインタビュー⑥

昨年度の3月、長崎県に住むポリオの患者さんにインタビューさせていただいた体験談を紹介します！📝

今回は、生後10ヵ月でポリオに感染した方の体験談です。麻痺が発生する前に、前兆として痛みがあったことをお話いただきました。両親から、おしめを交換する時に痛がり、泣き叫んでいたと聞いたそうです。前兆としての痛みは、他のポリオの患者さん、数名にも共通していたことで、大変驚きました。

また、骨の移植手術の経験についてもお話いただきました。手術が始まると、コンコン・ギリギリと大きな音が鳴り響き、まるで大工さんに工事をされているかのようだったとお話されました👷🪚
