Pneumonia is an infection that affects one or both lungs, causing the air sacs (alveoli) to fill with fluid or pus. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi.

Symptoms range from mild to severe and may include:
• Cough (with or without mucus)
• Fever and chills
• Difficulty breathing

How serious pneumonia becomes depends on your age, overall health, and the cause of the infection.
