KMTC speeds up transcript delivery amid rising global demand for graduates

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) on Friday, April 4, 2025, dispatched over 10,000 academic transcripts to its campuses across the country for students who completed their Final Qualifying Examinations (FQE) in January 2025.

The move comes as the institution reports a significant rise in demand for its graduates in international job markets. In 2024, KMTC processed 3,249 employment verification requests, a 50 percent increase compared to 2023.

“We have seen employers express interest in hiring our students immediately after they complete their FQEs,” said KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.

“That is why we resolved to release transcripts promptly, to enable our students to compete for jobs in real time. We would not want any of our graduates to miss out on an opportunity,” he added.

According to Dr. Oluoch, transcripts provide essential academic information, including course clusters, grades, and training hours, details that are increasingly sought after by recruiters.

“Some employers require a detailed breakdown of hours spent on theory and clinical training. All that information is captured in the transcript,” he noted.

The College has undertaken several reforms in recent years aimed at improving service delivery. One of the key interventions has been the decentralization of transcript issuance for students who completed their studies in 2024 and beyond.

Dr. Oluoch urged all eligible students to visit their respective campuses and collect their transcripts, confirming that the documents have already been delivered.

“For students who graduated in 2023 or earlier, transcripts will continue to be issued from the Examinations Office at our Nairobi headquarters,” he clarified.

He further emphasized the College’s commitment to operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, noting that devolving this service helps reduce the financial and logistical burden on graduates seeking academic.

The Secret to High-Yield Maize Farming

Maize farming is one of the most essential agricultural activities worldwide, providing food security and a steady income for farmers. However, many farmers experience low yields due to improper farming techniques, poor soil management, and inadequate pest control. If you want to maximize your maize production, follow these expert-recommended steps for a successful harvest.

1. Soil Preparation: Laying the Foundation for Success

A strong maize crop begins with properly prepared soil. Before planting, conduct a soil test to determine its nutrient composition and pH level. Maize thrives in well-drained, fertile loam soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 7.0.

Plowing and Tilling: Deep plowing (20–30 cm) helps improve aeration and root pe*******on.

Adding Organic Matter: Incorporate decomposed manure or compost to enrich the soil with essential nutrients.

W**d Control: Remove weeds before planting to prevent competition for nutrients and moisture.

2. Choosing the Right Seeds

Using high-quality seeds is crucial to achieving a high yield. Select hybrid or certified seeds that are resistant to pests, diseases, and drought. Some of the best-performing hybrid varieties include:

H614D (High-yielding and drought-resistant)

DKC9089 (Fast-maturing and disease-resistant)

Pioneer P2859W (Suitable for regions with irregular rainfall)

3. Proper Planting Techniques

Planting maize correctly ensures uniform germination and a better harvest.

Spacing: Plant maize in rows, with 75 cm between rows and 25 cm between plants.

Planting Depth: Seeds should be planted 3–5 cm deep in moist soil.

Timing: Plant at the onset of the rainy season for optimum moisture availability.

4. Fertilizer Application for Strong Growth

Applying fertilizers at the right time enhances root development and overall plant health.

Before Planting: Use farmyard manure or organic compost to improve soil fertility.

At Planting: Apply a basal fertilizer such as NPK (23:23:

College Board holds discussions with Bungoma Governor on strengthening medical training

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board of Directors on April 2, 2025, paid a courtesy call to Bungoma Governor Dr. Ken Lusaka to discuss ways of enhancing medical training at the College’s Bungoma and Webuye Campuses.

Key areas of discussion included expanding infrastructure, securing land titles, seconding teaching staff, identifying more clinical placement sites for students, and upgrading local hospitals to support specialized training.

“We deeply appreciate the County Government’s continuous support. Training healthcare professionals is a shared responsibility, and together, we can create an environment where students excel,” said Ms. Hardlyne Lusui, who led the KMTC delegation on behalf of the Board Chairperson, Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot.

Governor Lusaka reaffirmed the County’s commitment to supporting KMTC in fulfilling its mandate.

“When we invest in healthcare training, we invest in the future of our communities. That is why we are upgrading Bungoma Hospital to Level 6 within the next six months. We have also secured Kshs 250 billion for the construction of Misikhu Hospital, which will ease congestion in clinical training areas,” he stated.

He further pledged to explore ways to offer financial support to KMTC students through bursary schemes and other county-based initiatives🌍

The Treasury allocates KMTC Kshs 500 million towards HELB sponsorship

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students can now breathe a sigh of relief following the Government's reinstatement of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) sponsorship program.

The College has received an allocation of Kshs 500 million in the 2024/2025 supplementary budget to support financially needy students.

“This means we will go ahead and ask the Treasury to release the funds. Once the money reaches our bank, which may take a few weeks, we will ask HELB to open the portal for students to apply,” said CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.

He noted that the absence of funding had placed a heavy burden on many students, making it difficult for them to continue with their training.

“This prompted us to engage extensively with key government bodies, including the Parliamentary Committee on Health and the Ministry of Health, to advocate for the reinstatement of the funding,” he added.

According to Dr. Oluoch, the College, through the Ministry of Health, appeared before various arms of the National Assembly, including the Pending Bills Verification Committee on January 29, 2024, and the Departmental Committee on Health on February 23, 2024, among others, to push for the reinstatement of the program.

In addition, the CEO, accompanied by Board Chairperson Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot, presented the matter to H.E. President Dr. William Ruto during the official opening of the KMTC Kerio Valley Campus on January 9, 2025.

“We are pleased to announce that our efforts have borne fruit. The Government has allocated Kshs 500 million for student loans in collaboration with HELB,” he said.

Since the program’s inception in the 2022/2023 Financial Year, 22,342 KMTC students have benefited.
