Being a global breastfeeding week we gotta be sure about something.
Is it safe for covid-19 positive mothers to breastfeed?
Despite their low risk of covid-19,they are at higher risk of other diseases which breastfeeding prevents .It it so clear therefore that breastfeeding outweighs the potential risk of transmission of the disease,as per WHO.
Reproductive health and research says that when breast milk from a +ve mother was tested, only fragments if the virus were detected meaning the risk of transmission from mother to her baby can't be established at the moment although according to Dr.Fredrick Kairithia,a gaenacologist and obstetrician, theres no evidence that the virus can be transmitted through breastfeeding.
It's the responsibility of a breastfeeding mother to take all precautions given by the ministry of health to keep them and their babies from the deadly virus.
According to unicef, breastfeeding is the best way to fight the disease.
It's just not the disease ,a baby benefits alot from breast milk, and that's what is important.
