In one week we screened a total no of 166 clients a brief raw data revealed the following:
Already known to have hypertension: 32; newly diagnosed with hypertension: 26; Borderline: 21; and Normal blood pressure: 87.
This essentially means that a total of 58 clients had High Blood pressure which is 34.9% of our sample population.
Quit interesting statistics. According to Pengpid et al. 2020, globally hypertension is a major cause of morbidity and mortality,
with a prevalence of 31.1% in 2010 and an increasing trend in Africa, from 19.7% in 1990 to 30.8% in 2010.
In sub-Saharan Africa, between 2000 and 2013, the predicted prevalence of hypertension at mean ages of 30, 40, 50 and 60 years
was 16%, 26%, 35% and 44%. It was further noted that among hypertensives, 29.4% were aware, 6.5% were using antihypertensive medication, and 12.5% had controlled their BP (< 140/90 mmHg).
