A woman came into the delivery room , 36 weeks pregnant with contractions and she was already 3cm dilated .
Can you imagine that she had only been to antenatal just once and it was around 10 weeks when she came to register and just to know how many weeks she was.
Then she stopped coming.
She had done no other ultrasounds or tests during pregnancy.
A couple of minutes after she arrived , she was prepared for birth and her water broke
As soon as her water was broken she started to bleed and the baby went into distress very quickly.
She had to be rushed into the theatre for an emergency cesarean section to be performed but unfortunately the baby di ed before they entered the theater .
Cesarean section was carried out successfully and a de ad baby boy delivered.
When the placenta was removed, the reason why the baby d! ed was noticed.
Blood vessels were on the sac surrounding the baby and had burst when her water was broken.
If she had gone for antenatal care , it would have been identified and a cesarean section planned. Baby would have survived.
Mother was stitched up and sent to the ward for recovery.
I hope you learnt some Lessons here??
Pregnancy isn't a joke.
You're solely responsible for you and your baby when you're pregnant.
You make decisions that determine whether both of you live or not.
Your doctor or midwife can help you make the right decisions but they cannot decide for you.
Many have lost their lives or the lives of their babies because of wrong decisions they made.
Love yourself enough to make the right decisions for you and your baby.
Don't skip antenatal care.
Make sure you take your scans seriously. If you dont do any at all, do one to determine the location of your pregnancy and how many babies you're having when you get a positive test, one around 20-22 weeks to check if your baby is growing with all its necessary parts and if you have no problems with your placenta and cervix and one around 30-32 weeks t
