Unseen Dangers of LPG gas stove.
Probably 70% of Kenyan households use LPG gas as source of cooking fuel at their homes. On the other hand, a good percentage of home fires are caused by the LPG gas. This shows that, despite the many advantages LPG gas has, it has adverse effects too.
So, how do you know that your LPG is safe for use at home?
i) Always purchase LPG from an authorized franchise.
ii) Check the company seal and safety cap on the cylinder during delivery. Do not accept the cylinder if the seal is broken.
iii) Look for the due date of testing (marked on the inner side of the cylinder stay plate). If the due date is over, do not accept the cylinder.
iv) Check for gas leaks by applying soap solution on cylinder joints and pipes when putting the new cylinder into use

What to do when cooking?
- Keep the doors and windows of your kitchen open for proper ventilation.
- Avoid placing flammable or plastic items near the flame.
- Never leave your cooking unattended.
- Wear clothes that do not catch fire easily.
- Close the regulator k**b to the OFF position when the cylinder is not in use

Incase of gas leaks;
- do not ignite flames or sparks from matches, lighters or candles
- Open doors and windows to allow fresh air in and help disperse the gas
-Locate the gas shut off valve and turn it off
- If the gas leak is too strong, leave the house immediately and call for help

Incase of fire;
- shut off the gas supply
- use a fire blanket or fire extinguisher or a wet clothing to put it out (be careful you could get burnt) and evacuate if necessary.

Preventive measures;
a) regularly inspect gas applications for leaks, loose connections or damaged components.
b) Store the LPG cylinder upright and away from other combustible materials.
c) install carbon monoxide detectors near gas appliances (order from us, www.serenepsl.com)
d) Disconnect the LPG regulator and affix the safety cap on the cylinder when your gas stove is not in use for an extended period
e) Have a professional service your gas annually to ensure safe operation.

Fire safety is everyone's responsibility. Help me spread this message to your family, friends and community to help prevent fires and protect lives.

Neil Marcus said, "Disability is not a brave struggle or courage in the face of diversity, disability is an art. It is an indigenous way to live. I can bear witness of this statement.
Hearing loss or total deafness is really challenging friends and especially if you haven't accepted it as a disability. I am a victim, that's why am shedding light on this for the sake of a relative you have, a sibling or a colleague.
When you have hearing problems,
🦻You struggle to understand spoken language especially in a noisy environment or where people are speaking in a low tone.
🦻Mishearing words or phrases can lead to misunderstandings affecting work interactions, interviews and relationships.
🦻One feels embarrassed or inadequate especially if you miss important information during conversation or answer out of the conversation. This leads to isolation.
🦻Participating in meetings or understanding presentations can be difficult at work.
🦻If you are a student, notes taking becomes a challenge especially where teachers dictate notes. You keep on copying from your fellows or pardoning the teachers/lecturers.
🦻Hearing loss is a safety concern. It affects ability to hear sirens, alarms or warnings and even being aware of surroundings becomes challenging.
🦻It affects relationships especially when a loved one keep repeating themselves or when conversations become one-sided
🦻People judge you for arrogance or ignorance especially if they don't know your problem. Also feelings of frustrations, sadness and anxiety are common when people laugh at you for answering wrongly.

To cope with these problems, seek professional help, use assistive devices (even though they are expensive), try to learn lip reading (like me here), educate others and join support groups so you don't feel alone.

People with any disability needs a safe and health work environment too.
If it's a colleague who has hearing problems, don't laugh at them when they mishear, just try to be supportive and this way they will feel valued.
Thanks to innovation for hearing aid devices which has made communication much easier for us even though I have not secured one yet.
Thanks to Serenepsl for accepting me the way I am. Finding an organization that embrace you as you are isn't easy.

Does your organization consider disabilities? Let me know in the comments

Have you ever sat near a colleague, or passed by by a colleague and a body odor accosted from them? How did you feel especially if you sat together for a while? Obviously, no concentration... True?

Body odor is a common occurrence, but its effects on workplace dynamics can be significant. As an employer or employee, understanding body odor and its implications is crucial for maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.
Body odor occurs when sweat mixes with bacteria on your skin. When you exercise or get anxious, body temperatures rises and the sweat glands release fluids to cool it down. Other causes of sweating could be hormones, age especially in men, genes or certain foods(spicy, garlic, caffeinated beverage).

Body odor has an impact in the workplace in the following ways;
🤦‍♀️It hinders focus and productivity affecting overall work performance.
🤦‍♀️Colleagues may avoid interacting with someone who has noticeable body odor. This avoidance can hinder collaboration and teamwork, impacting project outcomes.
🤦‍♀️Employees who directly engage with clients represent the company. Good hygiene is essential, as clients may associate body odor with the organization’s overall professionalism.
To address this as employees;
✔Be mindful of your personal hygiene.
✔Switch to breathable fabrics and change clothes if you’ve been sweating
✔If you notice a coworker with body odor, approach the topic discreetly, use empathy and focus on the impact it may have on his/ her work relationship.

Body odor affects everyone, but addressing it respectfully is essential for maintaining a positive workplace culture and a productive workplace

Tea addicts.

What is that thing you know you are too attached to or addicted to? That thing you can't think well before you take it or do it?
Personally, I used to have a tea addiction ( I know am not alone). But its not anymore. Why? I made a choice not to let tea control my drinking pleasure.

The generation we have are addicts. Addicts to phones, addicts to fashion, addicts to screens (cartoons, soap operas), addicts to online, addicts to partying, addicts to gambling and gaming, addicts to drugs, addicts to make-up or anything you can think of. A good percentage are addicts to phones (including parents), screen, online, drugs and gambling.

When it comes to workplaces, we still have addicts. Addicts to lateness, addicts to excuses, addicts, salary advances etc. Even in church we have them. They can't carry a Bible, they use their phones, earphones. Where are we heading?
As a parent, am concerned. Because, addiction adds no value. It only affects one's mental health outcome.

Addiction can be defined as a compulsive dependence on a substance eg drug or alcohol or a behavior eg gambling and gaming. It involves a loss of control and negative consequences.

So, what's that controlling you? Is it the phone, gaming, gambling, drugs/alcohol etc. How long will you be into that slavery? Even the Bible says that whatever you hold too much to your heart is a god. In other words , you are a slave to it.(will post the verse later)
The only and best solution is a CHOICE. Begin by choosing the future you want for yourself. You have the power to change your life, so commit to recovery.
Overcoming addiction is a challenging journey, but it is entirely possible.

Lets commit ourselves to a positive mental health. Nice weekend.

Navigating the night!

Ever bed-wet or had a child or a kin who bed-wet? I know this is an embarrassing thing even to mention.

I was once there. And today , I would like to face this topic confidently because I know someone here has a relative who does if it was not them.

Bed wetting is the involuntary urination during sleep whereby the bladder cannot control/hold the urine. It has several causes both primary and secondary. It occurs mostly in children but it can persist up-to adolescent and adulthood.
Some of the common causes of bed-wetting are, development factors, hormonal factors, urinary tract infections, stress and anxiety, constipation or genetic factors (if either of the parent bed-wet, chance of a child to bed-wet are high).

Bed-wetting has impact on mental health. It may lead to feelings of embarrassment, shame, and low self-esteem, particularly in older children and adults. The fear of social stigma can lead to anxiety about sleepovers or camps, potentially resulting in social isolation or bullying.

Treatment for bedwetting is often tailored to the individual and may include:
Behavioral Techniques: Such as bladder training, moisture alarms, and establishing a routine for nighttime bathroom trips.
Medication: Certain medications can reduce urine production at night or alter the sleep-wake cycle to help prevent bedwetting.
Counseling or Therapy: To address any psychological factors, such as stress or anxiety, that may be contributing to bedwetting.
Lifestyle Changes: Including limiting fluid intake before bedtime and avoiding caffeine.

It’s crucial for family members to be supportive and for the individual to receive proper guidance to manage these challenges.
Bedwetting is a common issue in childhood and often resolves with time. However, if there are concerns, especially if bedwetting starts suddenly or continues into older childhood, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Let me hope I have touched someone.
