The week that was! ✨
This past week, a high-level U.S. Government delegation joined CIHEB Kenya, CDC Kenya, PEPFAR and Nairobi County officials in visiting Tabitha Medical Clinic in Kibera and Mathare North Level 4 Hospital.
The team, led by Brad Smith, Senior Political Advisor, saw firsthand the impact of PEPFAR funding on HIV and TB programs. The visit also focused on how Nairobi County is putting strategies in place to sustain these services for the long term.
At Tabitha Medical Clinic, the team observed how HIV, TB, and other primary health services are integrated under one roof, supported by electronic medical records and efficient pharmacy systems for commodity management. The delegation also met with community members, visiting two households to hear directly how PEPFAR-funded services are changing lives.
At Mathare North Level 4 Hospital, the focus was on innovations driving better health outcomes, including the use of the CAD X-ray machine for TB detection and a hospital-wide electronic medical record system. These systems are supporting county ownership of HIV programs, billing through the Social Health Authority, human resources management, and case-based surveillance for HIV monitoring.
The visit highlighted the importance of sustainable approaches, strong community partnerships, and the role of digital health innovations in strengthening HIV and TB services.
Ciheb Kenya remains committed to ensuring access, continuity, and provision of quality health services to the commuties we serve.
