Yesterday, our team, led by Jane Wanyama, CEO, The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, and Kennedy Mulama, Project Manager at AKHK, hosted Anne-Gaël Chapuis, Country Director of Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Kenya, and a French journalist, who paid a courtesy visit to review the ongoing East Africa Comprehensive Women Cancer Project (EACwC), funded by AFD and other partners.
The project interventions in the community include capacity building of health workers, cervical and breast cancer screening, HPV vaccination, community awareness creation and sensitization on cervical and breast cancer prevention, and above all, the construction and equipping of an oncology unit at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
During the visit, the AFD team met with key stakeholders from Homa Bay County, including Hon. Grace Mercy Atieno Osewe, County Executive Committee Member for Public Health and Medical Services, and Homa Bay Public Health Director, Dr. Adel Ottoma.
The East African Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EA-CwCP) is a regional health initiative in Kenya and Tanzania aimed at improving cancer care for women across East Africa. The project is funded by AFD, the Gates Foundation, the Aga Khan Foundation, among other partners.
