GONORRHEA AND CLAMYDIA INFECTION.
a research finding has just been published by the KEMRI research team on the prevalence of these two infection in nyalenda area of kisumu.

Caused by: Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Type: Gram-negative diplococcus bacterium
Appearance: Typically seen as paired (diplococci) bacteria inside white blood cells under a microscope
CHARACTERISTICS. :
Infects mucous membranes of the reproductive tract, urethra, re**um, throat, and eyes
Increasing concern due to antibiotic resistance and misuse,wrong diagnosis and treatment practices including ignoring standard treatment guidelines.
CHLAMYDIA.
Caused by: Chlamydia trachomatis
Type: Obligate intracellular bacterium
CHARACTERISTICS.
Cannot grow outside of host cells
Infects mucous membranes of the cervix, urethra, re**um, throat, and conjunctiva (eyes)
Has different strains some of which cause:
1.Genital infections
2.Lymphogranuloma venereum
3.Eye infections Causes TRACHOMA.
🔍 1. SYMPTOMS.
GONORRHEA.
IN MEN:
Painful urination (burning sensation)
Pus-like discharge from the p***s (white, yellow, or green)
Swollen or painful testicles (less common)
IN WOMEN:
Increased va**nal discharge
Painful urination
Vaginal bleeding between periods
Pelvic pain
Often asymptomatic
IN BOTH (if re**ally infected):
A**l itching
Discharge
Painful bowel movements
Bleeding
IN BOTH (throat infection):
Sore throat (usually mild or no symptoms)
CHLAMYDIA.
IN MEN.
Clear or cloudy pe**le discharge
Burning sensation during urination
Pain and swelling in one or both testicles (less common)
IN WOMEN:
Abnormal va**nal discharge
Burning during urination
Pain during s*x
Bleeding between periods
Lower abdominal pain
Frequently asymptomatic
IN BOTH (re**al infection):
Pain, discharge, or bleeding (often no symptoms)

For both gonorrhea and chlamydia:
1.NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test):
Most accurate and common
Can use urine samples, va**nal swabs, or swabs from the throat, re**um, or urethra
2.URINE TESTS.
Common for men
Can detect both infections
3. SWQB TESTS.
Vaginal swab (for women)
Urethral swab (for men)
Throat or re**al swab (if oral or a**l s*x is suspected)
4. CULTURE TESTS(less common):
Especially for gonorrhea
Used when antibiotic resistance is a concern
5. RDTS FOR GONORRHEA.
These are nowadays available and provide accurate results withing a very short time.

1.Unprotected va**nal, a**l, or oral s*x
2.Sharing s*x toys without proper cleaning or condom use
3.Mother to baby during childbirth
4.Multiple s*x partners or a new partner increases risk
