It was a privilege to provide corrective casting for this brave young lady with Clubfoot in Kibra back in 2016.Witnessing her journey to improved mobility and renewed self-esteem is why I love being an Occupational Therapist.

In 2017, we were in Kibra.

A therapist made a special support, called a splint, for a child. The splint helps the child's arm stay in a good position.

The therapist then showed the child's parent how to use it. It was very important that the parent felt comfortable and knew how to put the splint on and take it off correctly.

This is part of our community work to help children.

The path to recovery after encephalitis is a marathon, not a sprint. Right now, that means focusing on targeted exercises to rebuild muscle and improve overall body strength. Celebrating every bit of progress and feeling grateful for the ability to move and get stronger!

Many parent's think helpinga child with Autism is about checking boxes. Speech therapy? Check. Occupational therapy? Check.

But I learned the most profound lesson not on a therapist's couch, but on our living room floor.

The real magic happens when we stop just teaching and start truly connecting. Before we can focus on words, we need to focus on the spark in their eyes. Before we can work on goals, we need to build a foundation of felt safety and joy.

This is the heart of the Floortime approach for me: It’s about meeting my child exactly where they are, in their world. It’s about following their lead—even if that means spending 20 minutes marveling at the spin of a toy car’s wheel. In those moments, we’re not working on a skill; we’re building our relationship. We’re saying, "I see you. I'm with you. Your interests are important."

When I connect with his heart first, his mind becomes ready to learn. The regulation, the trust, the shared smiles... that’s the fertile ground where all other growth can happen.

It’s not about fixing. It’s about connecting. And that changes everything. 💙
