A good dietitian is a person who helps you to develop better habits. Small changes in your daily habits lead to achieving your goal. The goal is not necessarily to be thin, or bulky or fit.... but to be healthy, pain free and in control with a renewed identity.
It is very easy to give a person a short, energy restricted diet. You see results within a week or two and feel successful. But it doesn't lead to change.
Dietitians focus on the small changes and habits to achieve quality, meaningful long term goals. That takes much more effort, time and energy.
We don't specialize in marketing and web design, we study psychology, physiology, pharmacy, diet therapy and food. A dietitian teaches you to cook for fussy children, develop skills to get the whole family to change, buy smart, cost effective foods, make informed choices when doing shopping and more, while still continuing with your healthy eating plan.
We teach people skills to cope with limited resources and to enjoy food even if you don't feel well. We don't make unrealistic promises and we also know that living life is important. We see food as medicine and fuel. We teach people to appreciate food the way our body experiences food, and not to only focus on the small 'kick' the meal or snack gave. To just restrict oneself
Too much is seldom successful in the long run.
We know that life, stress and a lack of sleep make us hungry and make it difficult to resist quick fixes. We are very educated in which foods are better for certain diseases, but we also teach people how to use it in the every day menu. Every person can use a dietitian to assist in different stages of their life. Babies, pregnancy, breastfeeding, formula feeding, introducing solids, packing lunches, coping with diseases like diabetes, allergies or immune disorders, sport nutrition, weight loss and changes as the body ages.
A dietitian makes life easier to cope with.
