Lets learn;
Periodontitis
also known as gum disease, is a chronic inflammatory condition caused by bacteria. It damages the tissues and bone that support your teeth, potentially leading to tooth loss. If left untreated, it can also increase your risk of other health problems.
Causes:
Plaque buildup: Bacteria in plaque form a sticky film on your teeth.
Tartar: When plaque isn't removed, it hardens into tartar, which can irritate the gums and lead to infection.
Advanced gingivitis: Periodontitis can develop when gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) is left untreated.

Astigmatism is a common vision condition caused by an irregular shape of the cornea or the lens of the eye. Instead of being perfectly round like a basketball, the surface is shaped more like a football, which causes light to focus on multiple points in the eye rather than just one. This leads to blurry, distorted, or stretched vision at all distances.
Symptoms:
-Blurred or distorted vision
-Eye strain or discomfort
-Headaches
-Difficulty with night vision
-Squinting
Treatment Options:
-Glasses – with cylindrical lenses to correct vision
-Contact lenses – toric lenses are specially designed for astigmatism
-Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) – special lenses worn overnight to reshape the cornea temporarily
-Refractive surgery – procedures like LASIK or PRK to permanently reshape the cornea

Hyperopia (Farsightedness) and Presbyopia;
Hyperopia (Farsightedness)- A condition where distant objects can be seen more clearly than close ones because light entering the eye focuses behind the retina.
Causes:
-Usually genetic.
-Caused by a shorter than normal eyeball or a cornea that is too flat.
Age Group:
-Can be present at birth or develop early in life.
-May improve with age in some cases during childhood.
Symptoms:
-Blurry near vision.
-Eye strain or headaches when doing close work.
-Squinting to see clearly.
Treatment:
-Prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses
-LASIK or other refractive surgery

Presbyopia - An age-related condition where the eye gradually loses the ability to focus on nearby objects due to the hardening of the lens.
Causes:
-Natural aging process.
-The lens becomes less flexible, making it harder to change shape to focus on close objects.
Age Group:
-Typically starts around age 40 and up.
Symptoms:
-Difficulty reading small print.
-Needing to hold reading material farther away.
-Eye strain or headaches after reading or close work.
Treatment:
-Reading glasses.
-Bifocal or multifocal lenses.
-Contact lenses (multifocal or monovision).
-Surgical options like corneal inlays or lens replacement.

Today as we celebrate Nurses Day — a day that holds deep meaning not just for the nursing profession, but for every life touched by the care, compassion, and commitment that nurses embody.

‎Today, we shine a bright and well-deserved spotlight on the heart and soul of Makindu Medical Centre — our nurses.

‎Each one of you is more than just a caregiver. You are comforters in times of fear, teachers in times of confusion, and warriors in times of crisis. You have faced long hours, emotional exhaustion, and at times, a lack of resources. Yet, you never allowed any of these to shake your purpose.

‎Despite the countless challenges — understaffing, overwhelming workloads, personal sacrifices, and the emotional toll of caring for the sick and vulnerable — you show up, every single day, with unwavering strength and empathy. You do so not for applause, not for recognition, but because of your calling, your heart, and your dedication to serve.

‎To our nurses: your courage uplifts us, your kindness heals us, and your resilience inspires us. The lives you’ve touched, the smiles you’ve restored, and the dignity you’ve given to your patients — those are the quiet miracles that happen here every day because of you.

‎Let this day be a small token of our immense gratitude. Let it be a reminder that what you do matters, that you are seen, valued, and appreciated.

‎As a community, and as a country, we owe you more than words can express. But today, we say: thank you. Thank you for standing tall even when the days are long and the nights are hard. Thank you for holding hands, wiping tears, offering hope, and giving your best — always.

‎Happy Nurses Day to each of you. May you feel as honored today as we feel proud to have you as part of Makindu Medical Centre.

‎God bless you all.
