The hospital was established on 30th June 2011, in response to the dire need for alternative quality healthcare in the region.
It started as an outpatient clinic initially operating from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. The clinic offered outpatient services including pharmacy and laboratory.
Over a short time, the local community learnt of our presence mostly by word of mouth. Our satisfied clients were sure to share to others the quality services they had received from a small clinic in, at the time, the middle of nowhere.
As the demand for healthcare in the area increased, the clinic then registered as Makindu Nursing Home (MNH), started offering inpatient services. The one building operation was expanded to three adjacent buildings and Makindu Nursing Home was now a 24 bed facility with an operating theatre, female ward, male ward, paediatric ward and kitchen.
As the institution continued to grow and our client base expanded, there was urgent need for increased capacity. As MNH we shared a vision to build a state of the art hospital with 100 bed capacity. This vision became a reality when groundbreaking of the construction begun in September 2015.
As construction was underway, in February 2016, the hospital expanded into a rented space about 30 metres from the main compound. We called it “MNH Annex” and it was used as the male ward of the facility. After expanding to the annex building the male ward capacity was increased from 6 to 24 beds enabling MNH to achieve a total bed capacity of 48 beds.
In February 2017 construction was completed and we moved into the new building. Makindu Nursing Home (MNH) was Rebranded and Registered as Mulatya Memorial Hospital (MMH).
