My Story
The House of Fortune was born one sunny afternoon while I was enjoying a spa treatment in Kenya. After a luxurious treatment I spent some time chatting with the masseuse and gushing about how amazing I felt and how truly gifted she was. She told me the best gift of all was the look of relief and relaxation on her clients face and feeling the tension release from them as she treated them and how truly happy it made her feel to be helping others. She said it was an amazing feeling to help people everyday and give them that much needed time to just let everything go and focus on themselves, something we do not do often enough. Although I had a well paying job at the time of this trip it was un-fulfilling and I realized then and there I wanted to do something that made me happy while at the same time making others happy as well...... and this is how my journey into the holistic health world began! As soon as I arrived home I began taking courses and became certified in a number of modalities and soon after the House of Fortune opened it's doors to my very first clients. I believe one always has something to learn especially in a field such as this which is constantly changing as new health discoveries are being made daily so, to this day I am continuously studying holistic health and taking new courses whenever offered so I can give my clients the very best treatment which they deserve! At the House of Fortune I work hard to combine beauty and holistic health treatments to create balance. I send my deepest gratitude to the girl I met in Kenya who changed my life with a few simple words " why don't you?"
In 2016 I started another journey and started training to become a certified DDPY instructor. I had been doing DDPY for 2 years and found the more I did it the more I loved it which is crazy because I'm the girl who has never done anything athletic except skateboard to school and back! I had done a bit of yoga in the past but nothing intense and not very often. I never felt like I fit in with the class and although I felt like I was getting a nice stretch I never felt like I really worked out. I struggled with the moves and didn't enjoy the hush hush atmosphere. The first time I tried DDPY I did the 20 min intro workout and I almost dropped dead!! It was also the moment when I realized how out of shape I was. With a family plagued by diabetes and heart issues I decided that I was not going to go down that path and I was going to get into shape! My entire life I have been tiny, so tiny I am often made fun of so it wasn't about losing weight for me, it was about building up strength and stamina so I wouldn't be winded walking a few blocks or going up a flight of stairs. Because I am small people always assumed I was in shape, that day proved I definitely was not! As I started doing DDPY regularly the life long knee pain I had since I was a small child started going away and my flexibility drastically improved. I started feeling better, sleeping better and I was able to hike in Mongolia and climb mountains in Jordon without losing my breath and having to stop. The more DDPY helped me the more I talked about. Friends started asking me where they could take classes and that's when I decided I needed to teach DDPY! In December 2016 I became 1 of 2 certified instructors in Ontario. I now teach a number of weekly classes and became the first level 2 certified instructor in June 2018. I am so honoured to be teaching DDPY and having the most incredible people show up to class weekly. Seeing the positive changes of improved flexibility, weight loss and strength is so incredible! We have built such an amazing community and have built some strong friendships. I am so proud of all my students and so honoured to call them my friends.
