The Migori County Stadium was a sea of smiles, energy, and celebration during last Friday's closing ceremony. Thousands of nurses gathered for the national event, joined by Migori’s Governor, Ayacko, and First Lady (a proud nurse herself), Nairobi Senator , and representatives from the Kenya Union of Nurses and various nursing associations.

The festivities began with a 3-kilometre health walk through the town, where the nurses upped their step count while painting the once sleepy town white as they marched through the lakeside municipality.

Thereafter, the nurses streamed into the stadium for a bit of dancing, socializing and speeches. was on the ground to capture the most memorable moments!
Every speaker echoed one powerful truth: nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. 💙

, we’re proud to share that once again, is demonstrating its unwavering support for the profession in Kenya through a renewed commitment to the 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁. This phase focuses on elevating the profile of nurses by enhancing their access to specialized mental health training and services in Kenya. In turn, this will strengthen the overall delivery of mental health care across the country.

In attendance at the meeting were Anthony Gitau, Director of Global Community Impact for Sub-Saharan Africa, and Regeru Njoroge Regeru, Senior Manager for Program Delivery & Impact (EMEA), both from Johnson & Johnson, and Prof Eunice Ndirangu-Mugo, Dean, . The dean emphasized the vital role of AKU SONAM in advancing nursing and midwifery education and leadership in Kenya and beyond through evidence-based research, innovative training, and similar partnerships.

They led the inception meeting that brought together the project's new partners, including , the University of Nairobi, the Financing Alliance for Health, and Kamili Africa.

navigators are guiding patients in a global AstraZeneca -backed cancer study spanning six countries, including Kenya, the United States, Nigeria, Argentina, Italy, and El Salvador. The one-year ‘Powering Breast Cancer Progress’ study will compare patient outcomes between those who receive navigation support and those who do not, focusing on early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and completion of care.

Nurse navigators are specialized nurses who guide patients through diagnosis and treatment.

Stationed at Kugitimo Health Centre in Migori County Government, he has managed to achieve incredible milestones albeit through hard work, determination and sheer expertise. These include but are not limited to :

🔹 92% increase in skilled deliveries
🔹 Zero maternal deaths
🔹 70% reduction in perinatal deaths within a year
