TYPES OF HONEY IN KENYA
1) Acacia Honey:
Appearance: It is mostly light, varying between clear and pale yellow.
Location: The tree primarily grows in arid and semi-arid regions, much like within the Rift Valley and sections of Eastern Kenya.
2) Wildflower Honey:
Appearance: Amber to brown, the color mainly depends on what flower bees prefer in the eucalyptus family and the area where bees collect nectar.
Location: Forests that are on mountains like Aberdare, especially on side slopes where eucalyptus grows.
3) Wild Tree Honey:
Appearance: Menthol flavor alternative with a light yellow appearance to amber coloration.
Location: Found in places where eucalyptus tree plantations are common, primarily in most parts of Central Kenya.
4) Lingustica Honey:
Appearance: It ranges from light to medium amber color. It has a mild taste and takes a long time to granulate.
Location: Sourced from bees that gather nectar around the beautiful Mount Kenya.
5) Forest Honey:
Appearance: Very dark amber to almost black; distinctively strong taste.
Location: Obtained from trees producing flowers in high canopies within dense forest vegetation, for example, at Kakamega Forest in Western Kenya.
6) Mbeere Honey:
Appearance: In general, it is amber-rich in color; however, the diversity of the flora from which it is drawn often grants it extremely striking characteristics.
Origin: From the unique biodiversity evident in the Mbeere region.
