Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation Statistics show that one in ten women suffer from endometriosis. In March 2019, Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation, launched the yellow nails movement. b. c. d. e.

Based in Nairobi and Thika, Endo Sisters EA Foundation has been formed with the vision of promoting early diagnosis and keeping hope alive for endometriosis (endo) warriors and those with associated menstrual disorders. In this respect, the mission of Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation is to educate, share information, collaborate and encourage women living with Endometriosis and other menstrual disorders. The Yellow Nails Movement is a campaign aimed at sensitization and driving participation for endometriosis awareness creation. The movement aims to create a visual identifier for endometriosis through yellow nails and the traditionally known yellow ribbons given that yellow is the global endo colour. The call to action is ‘paint nails yellow’ and upload the said yellow nails photos on social media using . The target audience of this campaign are women and adolescents (teens included) of child bearing age who can either be accessed through salons, nail bars, schools or through social media. Men and Boys can also participate by tagging friends and posting on endometriosis awareness, with the hashtag . This campaign was initially supported by the launch slogan, ‘start the conversation’. As we continue with the conversation in its second year and as a reflection of the program work that we are engaged in, our thematic message is ‘Be informed, take action!’

Specifically, it is our hope and prayer that our campaign:

a. Will get women and particularly adolescent girls to seek out more information and early diagnosis. Will cause Endometriosis (and other menstrual disorders) to be recognized and included in the national reproductive agenda and Education Curriculum, in both Kenya and neighboring East African countries. Will help create a framework where accessibility to treatment in terms of subsidized costs and locations will be enhanced. Will help in the management of endometriosis particularly in terms of slowing endometriosis progression and infertility diagnosis. Will extend as a recognized endometriosis awareness identifier throughout Africa and globally. In conclusion, we at Endosisters East Africa Foundation envision a future, where yellow nails will psychologically be associated with endometriosis awareness globally. Fertility Awareness Event – Breaking Silence, Creating Hope

This past weekend, we were honored to attend the Fertility Awareness Event organized by Parents Africa. The gathering brought together women, families and experts to openly discuss fertility challenges and the many dimensions of assisted reproductive health.

- Personal Journeys: Women shared moving stories of infertility, loss, resilience, and eventually, the joy of parenthood. These testimonies reminded us that behind every fertility statistic lies a deeply human story.

- Clinical Insights: A panel of nutritionists, andrologists, fertility specialists, and embryologists demystified IVF, how it works, what is considered during treatment, and the success rates. This gave participants much needed clarity and hope.

- Specialist Perspectives: We heard from an OBGYN and fertility specialist on surrogacy and broader fertility treatment options, while another expert shed light on cross-border s***m and egg donations, offering a global view of reproductive care.

- Legal Guidance: A lawyer highlighted the legal frameworks around surrogacy and adoption, underlining the importance of being informed and prepared when considering these paths.

The event showed us that fertility is not just a medical issue, but an emotional, social, and legal journey one that requires compassion, advocacy and supportive policy.
It was an eye-opening day filled with knowledge, hope and solidarity.

As EndoSisters East Africa Foundation, we are grateful to be part of these conversations and we remain committed to raising awareness, creating community and ensuring that women facing conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS and other related menstrual disorders have a voice and the tools to navigate these challenges.
