πŸ₯³πŸ₯³Did you know πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Having a healthy dinner is linked to good sleep, good choices at breakfast and lunch, lower inflammation, greater resilience to stress, better digestion, stable blood sugar and lower anxiety.

What about the importance of timing πŸ€”

The time you eat dinner is just as important as what you eat. Many a time people eat dinner very late and then struggle with poor quality sleep, disturbed digestion and volatile dreams. 🀐🀐

Remember that your digestion gets weaker and weaker the more you move past sunset. The closer your dinner is to sunset the lighter it is on your body. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Insomnia 🀨🀨

**Did you know, that insomnia is categorized as a non communicable disease**

🀐🀐🀐🀐🀐

But, what is insomnia πŸ€”πŸ€”

Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which you have trouble falling and/or staying asleep.

The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic). It may also come and go.

Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Insomnia is chronic when it happens at least 3 nights a week for 3 months or more.

πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“

Did you know

A diet high in refined carbohydrates may raise the likelihood of developing insomnia, according to a 2019 study. Often referred to as β€œempty” calories, refined carbs include sugars and processed grains that are stripped of nutrients. πŸ€”πŸ€”

And wait did you all take a long look at the dietary allowance calculationsπŸ˜…πŸ˜…
Like the emoji above that allowance topic honestly makes most of us sweatπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Maybe a small recap
We have looked at the definition, sources, types and dietary allowanceπŸ˜„πŸ˜„
So if you took a small nutrition quiz to test your protein knowledge how would you score from the proteins theme 😌😌
And wait can you now educate someone else ??
Please text or email back for more information or services we could offer you at Megashift Nutrition.

Covid-19 and Nutrition

Tips on basic nutrition 😎

Protein πŸ“πŸ„
SoπŸ™‚πŸ™‚
-We've been mentioning some protein foods like chicken πŸ˜‹but we have never really gone deeper into proteins.
Let me begin with the definitionπŸ˜…
-What is a protein?
A protein is a macronutrient that is essential for building muscle mass πŸ‹πŸ‹
It is commonly found in animal products, though it is also present in other sources, such as nuts and legumes. 😎😎
Did you know πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
-Proteins help to build a stronger immunity apart from contributing to muscle growth and development.”
Okay let's get deeper πŸ€“
SoπŸ˜ƒ
The immune system works through the usage of certain protein molecules called antibodies.πŸ€—
These antibodies come into action as a response to harmful foreign substances like bacteria and viruses.πŸ™„πŸ™„
-Cytokines, a group of proteins that are specifically secreted by the immune system, are used by the body to signal for regulation of immunity.πŸ˜…
-Your gut is packed with 60-70 per cent of immune cells and these cells utilise branched-chain amino acids for fuelling themselves.
In conclusion🀐
- Dietary protein is necessary to help boost or build your immunity
Woaahhhh🎌🎌
Proteins are so essential

Wednesday πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ
Well so we've defined Vitamin D and we have looked at the sources 🍱🍱
Now today we must look at the types

Yap I just said types 🏌🏌
There are two major types of vitamin D;πŸ€—πŸ€—

Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) – which is synthesized by plants and is not produced by the human bodyπŸ˜…

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – which is made in large quantities in the skin when sunlight strikes bare skin. It can also be ingested from animal sources🐷

So what happens when we ingest or busk out in the sun 😏😏
Once Vitamin D is absorbed through unprotected skin or ingested then absorbed by the intestines, vitamin D is bound to the binding protein and carried to the liver via the bloodstream🌏🌏
But wait have you all heard the rumour that Vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus are all co-workers 🎌well, it is not a rumour
Did you know;
🍢🌞
Vitamin D functions by stimulating intestinal calcium and phosphorus absorption🍨
Calcium , phosphorus and vitamin D work together to protect your bones. Calcium and phosphorus help build and maintain bones, while vitamin D helps your body effectively absorb them.
So even if you’re taking in enough calcium and phosphorus, it could be going to waste if you’re deficient in vitamin D.
Wheeeww . That's it for today 🚡🚡

πŸ₯³πŸ₯³Good day to you all πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯

This week I want to speak to you about the common cold

πŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

Definition please

πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯Here we go πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯

The common cold is defined as an acute disease of the upper respiratory tract that is marked by inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose, throat, eyes, and eustachian tubes and by a watery then purulent discharge and is caused by any of several viruses (such as a rhinovirus or an adenovirus)

When do people mostly experience the common cold 🧐🧐

It is possible to get the cold anytime of the year with one symptom being the sore throat. Statistically adults have an average of 2 to 3 cold per year while children get it more .

Well, what is the link between diet and the common cold 😯😯

Join me tomorrow for that conversation πŸ€“

Eczema

Did you know Eczema is a non communicable disease
🀨🀨

But what exactly is eczema πŸ€“

Eczema is a condition in which patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. Some types can also cause blisters

Did you know 🧐🧐
Eczema affects up to 20% of children and 3% of adults; latest global data shows increases in its prevalence. In Africa, the prevalence of eczema ranges from 4.7% to 23%.

We now know the definition but what is the link between diet and eczema πŸ₯³

Eating certain foods may trigger a flare-up for eczema . Maintaining an eczema-friendly diet is key to overall condition management. Not everyone will have the same reactions or flare ups to the same foods.

Join me tomorrow as we discuss some of the eczema friendly foods 😊
