In a move aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure and service delivery, the evacuation and relocation of all affected inpatient service points is well underway in anticipation of the upcoming construction of an ultramodern hospital block at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MeTRH).

‎This exercise involves the temporary transfer of patients and medical equipment to alternative care sites within the hospital premises to ensure that service continuity is maintained as demolition of existing structures begins to pave way for construction of the new hospital wing.

‎This project is set to boost the hospital’s bed capacity by over 277 new beds. Once completed, the new facility will strengthen the hospital’s ability to meet rising healthcare demands and enable provision of specialized treatment in a more efficient and comfortable environment for both patients and medical personnel, in line with H.E. Governor Mutuma M'Ethingia's health agenda.

‎Key features of the new block will include an expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a fully equipped burns unit, modern surgical and medical wards, and an ultramodern maternity unit.

‎Construction is expected to begin soon following the completion of relocation and site clearance. The hospital remains fully operational, with contingency measures in place to minimize disruption and maintain quality of care. The hospital requests patience and understanding from all users as it works towards the seamless implementation and completion of this project.
