What is Myiasis?

Myiasis is a very rare disease primary caused by the invasion of tissue by larvae of certain dipteran files .
Oral myiasis as still more "rare" and unique owing to the fact that oral cavity rarely provides the necessary habitat conductive for a larval life cycle .
Oral myiasis can lead to rapid tissue destruction and requires immediate emergency treatment .

Predisposing factors to this condition include:~
• Poor oral hygiene
• Trauma
• Halitosis
• Senility
• Physically and mentally changed condition

~Treatment ~
Treatment Myiasis includes application of chemical agent after which the maggots are manually removed from the oral cavity .

~Prevention ~
Good sanitation personal and environmental hygiene and cleanliness are key to preventing this condition

Did you know it's possible for kids to have bad breath?

Key causes of this are:
1. Poor brushing or lack of brushing of our little ones' teeth
2. Presence of Cavities in the mouth
3. Gum disease
4. Throat infection

What to do
1. Brush the babies teeth twice a day
2. Use a soft cloth with salty water if the baby is less than a year old
3. Always use a baby toothbrush and baby toothpaste (usually labelled 0-5 years)
4. Check out for cavities and have them treated by a dentist
5. Get a dentist check up if symptoms persist
