The largest percentage of rainfall in the March to May season is usually observed in April. However, rainfall in April 2019 is forecasted to be below average in much of the country, including areas where the season has not started and/or have received low rainfall amounts.

If the forecasted below average rainfall materialize in April, combined with observed low rainfall and dry spells in March, this is likely to lead to: Rapid increase in the number of food insecure people, affecting areas already in alert and alarm drought phases.

The Kenya Red Cross continues to support families affected by drought through provision of food, cash transfer and health and nutrition services in areas worst hit.
