Common Causes of Blocked Fallopian Tubes πΈ
When we talk about blocked fallopian tubes, we are really talking about what stops the egg and s***m from meeting. The fallopian tubes are small and delicate, like soft pathways that connect the ovaries to the womb. Anything that causes damage, swelling, or scarring around them can make it hard for an egg to travel through.
One of the most common causes is infection, especially pelvic inflammatory disease, often called PID. This infection can happen when bacteria travel up from the va**na into the womb and tubes. It can come from untreated infections, miscarriages, or even after childbirth. When it heals, it sometimes leaves behind scars or sticky tissues that block the tubes. That is why it is so important to treat infections early, even when they seem mild.
Another cause is endometriosis. This is a condition where the tissue that normally grows inside the womb starts growing in places it should not, like around the ovaries or tubes. Every month, that tissue reacts to hormones and bleeds, just like inside the womb, but because it has no way to leave the body, it causes inflammation and scarring. Over time, this can block or twist the tubes and make it harder for the egg to move freely.
Fibroids can also cause blockage, especially when they grow close to the tubes. Fibroids are non-cancerous growths inside or around the womb. Sometimes they grow in a way that presses on the fallopian tubes and blocks the passage. In other cases, they can change the shape of the womb, making it harder for the egg and s***m to meet.
Past surgeries are another reason. Operations around the womb, ovaries, or abdomen, such as appendix surgery or caesarean delivery, can sometimes leave small scars inside the body. These scars can stick to the fallopian tubes and block them without you even knowing. That is why doctors always take extra care during surgery, especially near the reproductive organs.
Sometimes, a woman may not even know her tubes are blocked until she tries to get pregnant. The body does not always show signs, but these are the most common reasons.
Taking care of yourself, treating infections early, and going for regular checkups can protect your tubes. The fallopian tubes may be small, but they play a big role in fertility, and they deserve gentle care and attention.
