❌Women Face 10X Higher Risk of Thyroid Disorders❌
Thyroid disorders are the most common endocrine disorders, affecting approximately 42 million people in India.
✳️Role of Thyroid Hormones✳️
Thyroid hormones play a crucial role in regulating metabolism, growth, and overall development. The primary thyroid-related hormones include:
🔺T4 (Thyroxine) – The main hormone produced by the thyroid gland (inactive form).
🔸T3 (Triiodothyronine) – The active form of the hormone, created by the conversion of T4 through the removal of iodine atoms.
🔺TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone) – Regulates thyroid hormone production, with its levels depending on the amount of T4 present in the body.
❓❓❓Why Are Women More Prone to Thyroid Disorders❓⁉️⁉️
One in eight women experiences a thyroid disorder, primarily due to autoimmune responses and hormonal fluctuations. Factors contributing to higher susceptibility include:
✅Autoimmune triggers – Conditions like Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease are more prevalent in women.
✅Menstrual cycle fluctuations – Hormonal changes impact thyroid function.
✅Pregnancy – During pregnancy, women produce more thyroid hormones to support the fetal brain and nervous system development. Babies rely on maternal thyroid hormones until about three months, after which they start producing their own, though initially in insufficient amounts.
🔷Thyroid Function Tests- to diagnose thyroid disorder
▪️T4 (Thyroxine levels)
▫️T3 (Triiodothyronine levels)
🔹TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone levels)
🔴 Common Thyroid Disorders
1. Hypothyroidism (Underactive Thyroid)
A condition where the thyroid gland produces insufficient thyroid hormones.
Hashimoto’s Disease – An autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid, leading to low hormone production.
2. Hyperthyroidism (Overactive Thyroid)
A condition caused by excessive thyroid hormone production.
Graves’ Disease – An autoimmune condition that results in overproduction of thyroid hormones.
3. Goiter
A condition develops when the thyroid gland grows larger, often caused by iodine deficiency.
Thyroid disorder is treatable with certain medications but not curable .
Thyroid disorders can significantly impact overall health, making early diagnosis and treatment essential.
