More Emotional Tone
As an autism awareness crusader, my heart aches when I think about this. Imagine the pain you feel when you’re sick with something like H. pylori—the stomach discomfort, the weakness, the constant unease. Now imagine a nonverbal autistic child going through that same pain, but unable to express it. Unable to say, “I’m hurting.”
Instead, their pain is mistaken for misbehavior. They are punished instead of comforted. Their suffering is misunderstood, and more pain is added to what they are already enduring.
Sometimes, the journey autistic parents walk is simply unimaginable. 💔

Let’s talk about biting — especially in nonverbal autistic children.

Biting is not aggression.
It’s often a response to overwhelm, pain, fear, or unmet needs.

When we respond by biting back or using force, we’re not teaching regulation — we’re teaching fear and confusion.

What helps instead:
🧩 Identifying triggers
🧩 Offering safe alternatives (chew tools, deep pressure, movement)
🧩 Teaching replacement behaviors over time
🧩 Responding with calm, consistent support

Understanding behavior as communication changes everything.
And it’s one of the foundations of real inclusion.
