If you speak to any special needs parent(s) at least each of them will give you an instance when they felt that their children were not included. It's heartbreaking really. Before I was a special needs parent I was ignorant on the challenges faced by special needs children and their families. But now that I am enlightened let me share with you a few tips.
1. Special needs children are the most loving people once you get to know them
2.Learn more about the child, special needs parents appreciate the fact that someone cares
3. If the child visits you, try to make the physical environment accessible for them e.g remove coffee tables, flower vases, easy to break items etc make the visit enjoyable
4. Avoid assumptions at all costs; just because one special needs child acts one way does not mean that its true for all
5. Mind your words even with the child because most really understand what is going on. Be sensitive.
6. Involve your own children because the more typical children interact with special needs children they more they see them as individuals.
I challenge you to promote or advocate for inclusion within your community in 2020 and beyond.

2 Cor. 1:4 "who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
What joy it is to see our purpose fulfilled!! A new parent came to pick her son this afternoon and the look on her face seeing her son on a walking aid...she could not withold it she rushed outside to call her relatives who were waiting in the car to witness the moment. I truly understand. We thank God for enabling us to do this.

I must tell you a story…My second son Asa was a very quiet boy growing up. Unlike his older brother who had meltdowns Asa was the opposite. Quiet when you wanted him to be quiet. But just like his brother he took time supporting his neck, back and overall frame. From experience we started physiotherapy and occupational therapy for him when he was six months old. At three years he joined his brother at a special school and the teachers just loved him. Because of his small frame to them he looked like a baby. I thank God for them.
Something interesting happened when an older boy who had sessions at their school also took to Asa. Whenever he came in for sessions the first port of call was at Asa’s class to say “Hi.” Suffice to say that not much learning would go on after this. Once done the older boy would rush again to Asa’s class where he would carry him outside where they would sit and take turns telling each other stories. What amused the teachers and myself is how when one of them finished talking they would both burst into laughter. Two non-verbal boys having the time of their lives. This must have been a turning point for Asa because soon after he started making an attempt at words. His vocabulary keeps growing. He must love the sound of his voice because no one in our house can quite laugh like him.
