Just thought as we enter the last weekend of 2021 for any newbies that haven’t seen it. A huge welcome to all those who have decided to take a break from alcohol.
Memories of Alcohol:
I drank for happiness and became unhappy. I drank for joy and became miserable. I drank for sociability and became argumentative. I drank for sophistication and became obnoxious. I drank for friendship and made enemies. I drank for sleep and woke up tired. I drank for relaxation and got the shakes. I drank for courage and became afraid. I drank for confidence and became doubtful. I drank to make conversation easier and slurred my speech. I drank to feel heavenly and ended up feeling like hell.
Take it slow, take it gentle, be kind to yourself and don’t set your goals so high that the journey ahead seems like a mountain to climb. Practice lots of self-care which will probably involve rest, nutritious food, watet. Whatever it takes to get you going. Say no to anything that might weaken your resolve, sodas and refined sugar, energy drinks.
Connect with like minded people. This is an ideal time (you will have lots of spare time!) to focus on your health. Get out there into nature. Forest bathe. Walk. Start running. Swim.
Whatever satisfies you. Or if, like me, you are tired at first, then listen to your body and rest it for as long as it needs. Most of all be kind to yourself. If it involves local foods or organic meals and drinks, so be it. You got this. I’m proud of you for being here or taking the journey. Sending love and strength. It’s a simple thing. Just don’t drink alcohol and sodas.
Simple but not easy. I’m a living proof it can be done. There are many people just like me who have stood up in the face of a society that glorifies alcohol as a social necessity and said, no more! What freedom! Viva to a health Revolution!
