Outreach Photos 18th September 2021.

Hello Friends of AFYA Mtaani, on Saturday 18th this month, at 10am we carried on with our 3rd outreach despite earlier chaos in Kiamaiko Huruma, the turn up of our clients (patients) was big in numbers, many of them being children below 15 years. We also had a short documentary of our outreach and interviews in-between taken by Miriam.

The doctors were overwhelmed and we had to close our door at 6pm to manage the few patients who were already waiting inside.

The number of health and service providers in attendance was 11 some were volunteering.

Tomorrow from 10 am in Kiamaiko Huruma, munene road we will have our 2nd outreach, we will be introducing maternity services alongside general body check.

Yesterday we organized a small outreach for our community in Huruma kiamaiko at our clinic, the outcome was good a number of people observed had minor health issues compared to the complicated cases being 3 in which we refered some to KNH. We want to thank our organizers who supported the whole program.

Afya Mtaani:Voluntary Health Outreach Program.
A group of medical students have developed a concept to contribute to the community by providing voluntary health outreach targeting the informal settlements in Nairobi.

We realize the effect of the Corona pandemic in this vulnerable population who are even under normal circumstances have access to basic medical services.

The Corona times have complicated their situation further based on fear and negative publicity associated with the disease. People are avoiding hospitals for fear of contracting Corona.

We provide the community with valid information and identify people with diseases that have cure and those with underlying ailments to access services through referrals.

We want to spread the guidelines given by the ministry and where possible seek solutions to other public health related issues like general hygiene water points and social distancing.

We have come together under a PBF affiliated project, One World Network which is already supporting slum children and youth with education, school feeding and sanitary pads provision.
