Everything that is good started from an idea that was transformed into reality. There must be a beginning to everything.

If you’re ready for a change or you want to start something new, why not now? Ask yourself why you want a change, then go for it. Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.

When Joe Muriuki tested HIV positive in the mid-1980s, doctors gave him three months to live.

Being the first Kenyan to come out publicly about his HIV status, Muriuki battled stigma, profiling, and misinformation.

Thirty-six years later, the HIV hero is still alive, strong and has continued to pursue higher education to the point of earning a PhD.

What has been your biggest achievement this year?

Fact: Being HIV+ doesn’t mean you cannot reach your goals. Remember that an HIV diagnosis doesn’t have to stop you living a full and healthy life. With the right treatment and care, you can expect to live just as long as someone who doesn’t have HIV. HIV shouldn’t stop you doing the things you want to do in your life; whether it’s being in a relationship, having a family, or a particular career.

We salute you Doreen

HIV stigma warrior Doreen Moraa Moracha has narrated how a man passionately told her that he was ready to date her only to shy away from her.

Doreen: I went to his place. He sat at the edge of the sofa. He later told me, "It's not really you. I am just not prepared for this."

Doreen, who openly talks about being HIV positive always encourages her fans to take necessary precautions and not to discriminate people living with the virus.

'Undetectable = Untransmittable' (U=U) is a campaign explaining how the s*xual transmission of HIV can be stopped.

When a person is living with HIV and is on effective treatment, it lowers the level of HIV (the viral load) in the blood. When the levels are extremely low it is referred to as an undetectable viral load. This is also medically known as virally suppressed. At this stage, HIV cannot be passed on s*xually.

This scientific evidence was gathered from several studies. The studies included thousands of heteros*xual and gay couples in which one partner had HIV and the other did not. Over the course of the studies, they found that there was not a single HIV transmission from an HIV-positive partner who had an undetectable viral load.

When a person is undetectable, condoms are not required to prevent HIV transmission, but being undetectable does not protect against other s*xually transmitted infections.

U=U applies to transmission through s*x only.

As well as U=U, PrEP is another way to prevent HIV transmission, for HIV-negative people who may not know the HIV status of their s*xual partner(s) or whose s*xual partner(s) is not undetectable.
