Today, KEHPCA represented the hospices and palliative care fraternity in a public engagement forum at Semara Hotel, Machakos, contributing to the development of the Kenya Health Professionals Policy. The meeting was officially opened by Machakos County Commissioner Ms. Josephine Ouko and led by MoH officials under Dr. Musyoka (Director, Standards & Practice).
The policy aims to build a resilient and equitable health workforce to drive Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improved health outcomes. Key challenges highlighted included workforce shortages, inequitable distribution, skills mismatch, weak coordination, and health worker migration.
KEHPCA emphasized critical gaps in , noting the need for stronger integration into health workforce planning and training, inclusion within Primary Health Care and community systems (CHPs),improved equitable access, especially in underserved areas, clear alignment with the National Palliative Care Policy (2021-2030)and better data and monitoring systems
We submitted a hard copy of our memorandum that recommended the explicit inclusion of palliative care in the policy to ensure holistic, person-centered care across the life course.
Together, we continue to advocate for a health system that improves the quality of life for all Kenyans.
