Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) is a crucial aspect of holistic palliative care, yet it often remains an overlooked area. Among the key barriers to its integration is the policy landscape.
Through the Accessible, Equitable, Sexual Reproductive Health, Whenever, Wherever Project, supported by AmplifyChange, KEHPCA convened a 3-day Policy Monitoring, Accountability, and Advocacy workshop in Nairobi.
The workshop brought together The Ministry of Health, including Dr. Jacqueline Kisia from the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health department and Dr. Esther Muinga from the Division of Healthy Ageing, Palliative Care, and Older Persons, alongside civil society organizations, including Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations - KENCO, NCD Alliance Kenya Faraja Cancer Support Trust, and Community Voices Network.
Palliative care providers have also been part of this important conversation, including our project implementing partners Laikipia Palliative Care Center, Nairobi Hospice, Coast Hospice, and VINES Kenya, as well as Nyeri Hospice, Kilifi County and Referral Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the integration of SRH within palliative care by enhancing healthcare providers’ capacity, advancing policy monitoring and accountability, and fostering advocacy strategies that promote sustainable and patient-centered service delivery.
Together, we are working to ensure that addresses the whole person with dignity, compassion, and equity.
