I am so excited! A few weeks ago, I was on the verge of a bit of a professional crisis… then I made a crazy decision to start the Voice Up choir & quit my steady 16-hr a week projectmanagement job that was draining my energy.

I wasn’t sure how it would go, if it would work out… but I took a chance and here we are.

Tomorrow, I’ll be leading a choir of 70 people (and we still have some tickets available for all you last minute decision makers) in Cultuurhuis de Paulus in Oegstgeest. The first session in a series of 6 Pop-Up style choir events in my hometown.

Remigration has been challenging especially professionally. But today I feel so super excited about tomorrow’s session…!

One of the biggest myths that many people in the Netherlands believe: “If I speak up like the Dutch, I’ll be arrogant.”

Let me break this down, the Dutch way 🫣🤗

Dutch directness isn’t about being loud or pushy. It’s about clarity. It’s about saying what you mean without layers of softening.

You don’t have to abandon YOUR communication style to be heard here.
You can be thoughtful AND direct.
You can be respectful AND assertive.
You can be YOU AND thrive in Dutch work culture.
The shift isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about updating what you believe is possible.

What if speaking up didn’t mean losing yourself? What if it meant finally being seen for who you really are?

What an incredible privilege to raise kids on two different continents. This morning, we enjoyed a walk in the snow! And just months ago we helped release newly hatched sea turtles 🐢 back into the Indian Ocean. Today I’m grateful for all our experiences.
