Sub-theme 1 : Drug-Sensitive & Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis.

Six months can cost a job. Drug resistance can cost years. TB disrupts more than lungs it disrupts income, stability, dignity. And drug-resistant TB threatens to reverse progress unless prevention, early detection, and patient-centered models evolve. We are seeking rigorous evidence that:

>> Strengthens prevention strategies

>> Advances active case finding

>> Improves treatment adherence models

>> Confronts drug resistance with innovation and equity

Your research belongs in Drug-Sensitive & Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: Prevention, Case Finding, Treatment & Care.

Submit your abstract under Sub-theme 1: Drug-Sensitive & Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis.

We covered what is POCUS, who can learn and apply it and now we cover a very important question:

What clinical questions does POCUS help to answer?

At the bedside, POCUS helps clinicians quickly answer focused clinical questions such as:

• Is there free fluid in the abdomen?

• Is the lung sliding or is there a pneumothorax?

• Is the heart contracting well or is there pericardial effusion?

• Is the IVC full or collapsed?

• Is this vessel safe to cannulate?

These targeted assessments take minutes and the real-time answers guide immediate decisions — whether to escalate care, start treatment, or proceed safely with a procedure.

What clinical question do you most often face that would benefit from bedside ultrasound?

Last week we covered what is and what it is not. Today we answer one of the most commonly asked questions — who can learn and apply POCUS? The simple answer: Any healthcare professional who treats patients can learn and apply POCUS.

Traditionally, ultrasound examinations were performed by imaging specialists, often away from the bedside in the radiology departments, which are often far from the point of care. While effective, this model limited speed and immediacy in decision-making.

Today, POCUS has expanded beyond radiology and is used by emergency physicians, internists, anesthetists, critical care doctors, OBGYN, family physicians, nurses, and clinical officers to support rapid diagnosis, monitoring, and procedural guidance.

Any healthcare professional involved in frontline decision-making can benefit from POCUS — not as a replacement for comprehensive imaging, but as a tool to strengthen timely, patient-centered care.

Always keep in mind the the Golden Rule of POCUS: "It is an extension of the physical exam, not a replacement." A POCUS scan is only as good as the clinician’s physical exam and history-taking.

We keep hearing about hashtag and how it helps doctors make quick decisions and at the bedside. POCUS is not just another fancy machine in the hospital. But what POCUS is and what it is not?

POCUS is the use of ultrasound by a healthcare professional to answer specific clinical questions or guide procedures — right at the patient’s bedside, in real time.

What POCUS is not? POCUS is not a comprehensive ultrasound exam. A full ultrasound exam takes longer time and produces detailed reports, and is done by a sonographer or radiologist.

POCUS focuses on targeted questions about one organ or system, with image acquisition and interpretation taking just minutes and can be done by a doctor or even a nurse to guide immediate treatment.

POCUS doesn’t replace comprehensive hashtag , it accelerates care when every minute matters; at the bedside.
