1.Obituary
Last week, we sadly lost one of us - Bernadette Mueni Wambua, who was yet to complete the assessors' practical training under ASLM cohort-MHREP
2.Courtesy of our MoU with ASLM, we held two NCQI project stakeholders engagement sessions, the 1st in Nairobi sponsored by us, and the second in Diani, Kwale graciously sponsored by. Keton consulting
3.Dr.Sultani Matendechero DDG- MoH agreed to be our Patron
4.AKMLA in conjunction with FEAMLS and FeLPA which are regional and African MLST Federations signed an MOU to prepare scientific content program of the MEDLAB EAST AFRICA 2024 conference & exhibition with the organizers INFORMA MARKETS scheduled for 4th to 6th September, 2024 at KICC,Nairobi- registration is free and our treasury officials and SG shall be making presentations please purpose to register and attend
5.CDC Kenya laboratory branch chief Dr.Makokha Ernest advised that there is a paradigm shift in the operationalisation of US funding moving forward; in order to make national projects, sustainable and therefore in future support will be given to public and not private entities this came soon after our NCQI project with ASLM had been on boarded into MMUST research division for purposes of commencement of our outstanding MoU implementation following MoH non responsiveness
4.Together with CMLCs medical laboratories under stalled partner supported CQI program, about 30 medical laboratories from different sectors have been selected to form part of our first cohort facilties to be mentored towards accreditation under ISO 15189
5.We are riding on the MEDLAB EAST AFRICA 2024 gathering to officially launch our ASLM NCQI project on Friday 6th September 2024 from 8 am at the Sarova Stanley hotel Nairobi and you are welcome, the CEO ASLM will grace the occasion
6.With the treasurer( shared the training announcement prior) we attended a clinical/medical laboratory personel training on ISO 15189:2022 courtesy of international accreditation service (IAS) of Carlifonia USA,the SG engaged their President and Deputy President in the course of the 2 days training and I am glad to report that they will:
a)Host the said launch
b)Present on the accreditation process to the project participating medical laboratories
7.An MoU between IAS and AKMLA is in the offing and will be signed in the course of the year, so that training of assessors as per our project takes off
8.ASLM will assist with training of SLIPTA mentors and more ASLM assessors as it were and continues as per our project deliverables
9.The website developer was initially paid a commitment fee of 5000 by the Vice President, which was topped up with Kshs.20,000 by treasurer from our contributions
10. The treasury officials and SG represented you at the MoH's stakeholders' engagement for the development of human resources for health policy guidelines
11.SG as an observer recently attended virtually the quarterly technical advisory committee meeting for medical laboratory accreditation by IAS
12.Majority subscribers are in arrears for 2024
13.The apathy within AKMLA has led to some members becoming disinterested
14.An appeal is hereby made that we must all strive to get involved.
