As part of our commitment to hands-on, practice-oriented learning, we are pleased to host the 16th Cohort of the Africa Project Finance Program on an upcoming site visit to the Nairobi Expressway Project.
The Nairobi Expressway is Kenya’s largest road PPP project, cutting across the busy Central Business District of Nairobi. Developed, financed, built, and operated by Moja Expressway Company in collaboration with the Kenya National Highways Authority , the project has played a transformative role in easing traffic congestion in the capital, significantly improving mobility, productivity, and the overall competitiveness of Nairobi.
Beyond its visible success, the project presents rich learning opportunities:
- What challenges shaped the structuring and negotiation of the PPP?
- How were construction risks managed in a dense urban environment?
- What lessons are emerging from the operational phase?
- How is the project performing against its original expectations?
These are the real-world questions that infrastructure professionals must grapple with, and that this site visit seeks to unpack.
In line with our vision to build Africa’s capacity in infrastructure project finance and PPPs, this engagement will allow participants to connect theory with practice, drawing lessons directly from one of the continent’s most prominent urban road PPPs.
