It is with deep sorrow that I acknowledge the tragic incident that occurred in Chaka, Nyeri Town, where a young man lost his life to su***de. Reports indicate that during his final moments, he was seen on a building’s sixth floor by bystanders who tragically misunderstood his distress as attention-seeking. Instead of receiving the urgent help he needed, he was mocked and dared to jump. Moments later, he fell to his death.

First and foremost, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends. No words can adequately express the pain of such a loss, and we stand with you in this dark hour.

This incident highlights a critical need for community awareness and education on mental health and su***de prevention. Mental distress is not a spectacle it is a serious cry for help. As a society, we must learn to recognize the signs of emotional crisis and respond with empathy, not judgment.

As a Clinical Psychologist and the incoming Chairperson of the Kenya Counsellors and Psychologists Association (KCPA), Nyeri County Chapter, I commit to taking immediate steps to address these gaps. We will organize a community mental health awareness campaign, focusing on su***de prevention, empathy, and appropriate intervention strategies. Additionally, we will coordinate a debriefing and support session for the affected family, offering psychological first aid and grief support.

Let this tragic event be a turning point for us all to choose compassion over mockery, and action over indifference.

🎄✨ Mental Health Check-In During the Holidays ✨🎄
The holiday season is often a time for joy, but it's important to recognize that it can also bring a mix of emotions for many of us. Between the celebrations, the expectations, and the end-of-year reflections, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. And let's be real – January is right around the corner, and with it often comes the reality of getting back to "normal" life... and the financial pressures that come with it. 💸

Take a moment to breathe. It's okay to not feel 100% festive or energized. Your mental health matters, and it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge if this season feels a little harder than usual.

❤️ Here’s a reminder:

It’s okay to set boundaries – saying “no” is a form of self-care.

If you’re struggling financially, know you’re not alone. It’s a tough time for many.

Give yourself grace – the holidays don’t have to be perfect, and neither do you.

Reach out if you need support – talking to someone can make all the difference.

Let’s start 2025 by remembering we don’t have to carry everything alone. ❤️

🌟 Let's Talk About Mental Health and Addictions Recovery 🌟

Hey friends,

I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that's close to my heart: mental health and addictions recovery. In a world where social media often showcases the highlight reel of our lives, it's crucial to remember that behind the screens, many people are struggling with their mental health and battling addictions.

It's important to create a supportive environment online, where people feel safe to open up about their struggles without fear of judgment. Here are a few ways we can help:

1. **Be Kind and Understanding:** You never know what someone might be going through behind their social media posts. Let's practice empathy and kindness in our interactions.

2. **Offer Support:** If you notice a friend posting about their struggles, reach out to them privately. Let them know you're there to listen and offer support without judgment.

3. **Share Resources:** Share helpful resources and helpline numbers for mental health and addictions support organizations. You never know who might benefit from the information you provide.

4. **Normalize Seeking Help:** Encourage open conversations about mental health and addictions recovery. Let's break the stigma surrounding these topics and encourage others to seek help when needed.

5. **Educate Yourself:** Take the time to educate yourself about mental health and addiction. Understanding these issues better can help us provide more meaningful support to those who need it.

Together, we can create a supportive and compassionate community both online and offline. Let's use our platforms to spread awareness, kindness, and hope.

Take care,

JoJohn Mutugi Baraka
