Intestinal worms can steal vital nutrients from your child, leading to:
* Malnutrition
* Anemia
* Impaired physical and cognitive development
The Power Duo!
When combined, Vitamin A supplementation and deworming create a powerful shield, helping children:
* Absorb nutrients better
* Stay healthier

๐Ÿ”ต The Acid in your stomach is ideally at a pH of 1-3 (lower number means more acidic and better for digestion and pathogen elimination).

๐Ÿ”ต Your stomach can deal with this Acidic environment because of the Mucus layer. H-Pylori and other pathogens eats up the mucus layer causing ulcers.

๐Ÿ”ต Your body's primary anti-reflux barrier is a type of muscle called a sphincter.

๐Ÿ”ต A sphincter is a highly specialized type of muscle that allow or restrict passage of fluids and materials through your body.

๐Ÿ”ต LES or Lower Esophageal Sphincter is the valve that restricts the flow of stomach acid to the food pipe.

๐Ÿ”ต This valves close when the abdominal acidity & pressure builds up preparing for digestion. Low Stomach acid won't trigger closer of the sphincter muslce hence regurgitation of acid to the throat.

๐Ÿ”ต When your Stomach Acid is too LOW (higher pH), the stomach fails to signal your brain to close the valves at the right times & with sufficient pressure.

๐Ÿ”ต When this happens, the stomach acid refluxes into the Esophagus & thats what causes the burning sensation.

๐Ÿ”ต So how burning sensation with less acidity?
Even though it's less acidic, it is still an Acid & highly corrosive. Unlike the stomach with mucus lining, other parts of the body (in this case esophagus) can't handle it.

๐Ÿ”ต The main reasons for low stomach acid are:

โ–ถ๏ธ Diet
โ–ถ๏ธ Stress
โ–ถ๏ธ Medication

๐Ÿ”ต Solution:
โœ… Eliminate Grains
โœ… Avoid refined carbohydrates and Sugar
โœ… Avoid Seed Oils
โœ… Avoid Alcohol
โœ… Avoid frequent Eating

๐Ÿ”ต Antacids provide temporary relief by neutralizing the acid that's burning your mucus eroded gut lining, ulcer wound and esophagus, but that doesn't address the root cause. It will keep making the problem worse in the long run & effect your health in other ways too.

During weight management in obesity and overweight, we have 3 things we need to look at
Diet
Physical exercise
And Lifestyle modification.

But what does Lifestyle modification entail really?
This involves behavior modifications which include;
Chain breaking; this involves breaking the link between behavior that tend to occur together e.g. snacking on chips while watching TV. Make eating a singular activity.
Stimulus control; alter the environment to minimize the stimulus for eating e.g. storing food out of sight and avoiding the paths by the food outlets.
Positive stimulus control include;
Keep low fat snacks at hand to satisfy hunger and appetite
Place walking shoes in a convenient visible location
Slow the rate of eating to become mindful of your eating and to reduce food intake
Pausing during meals
Chewing for a maximum number of times so as to slow the eating process.
Cognitive structuring; this involves changing ones frame of mind regarding eating. E.g. instead of using a difficult day as an excuse for eating.
Self-monitoring; this involves monitoring the tracks which foods are eaten when, who one eats with, which physical activities are completed and records of body weight. This helps to understand more about their habits and reveals patterns e.g. unconscious overeating that may explain problem behaviours that lead to weight gain. Emotional settings in which eating occur can be indicated.
Setting easy to achieve short term goals; these includes increasing the number of minutes of walking on weekends
Stress management; these involves daily meditation, progressive relaxation and visual imaginary exercise.
Social support; this involves organizing commercial support meetings and classes. E.g. slim possible programme.

Some people find that making changes to their diet improves their arthritis symptoms. This may involve avoiding inflammatory foods, such as saturated fat and added sugar. It may also involve avoiding foods that are high in purines.
1. Pasta
Wheat products โ€” like pasta, bread, crackers, and bagels โ€” may spell trouble for your joints, especially if you have rheumatoid arthritis. The reason? Wheat contains gluten, a protein that can irritate and aggravate arthritic joints. In addition to wheat, barley and rye also contain gluten, so you might want to avoid those too.

Instead, try polenta, quinoa, or instant brown rice. They're free of gluten, rich in fiber, and take only minutes to make.

2. Butter and Margarine
These spreads may seem innocent enough, but they're packed with advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. These are substances generated during food processing that can cause stiffness and inflammation. Because cooking with high heat can also generate AGEs, they are also in many roasted, grilled, and fried foods.

Instead, try hummus. It contains a fraction of the AGEs you'd find in butter or margarine, plus it's lower in fat and calories.

3. Hamburgers
Sure, burgers are also loaded with AGEs, but when it comes to arthritis discomfort, this is only half of the equation. A new study found that high-fat foods like hamburgers may encourage the growth of unhealthful gut bacteria. This travels through the body to the bones and wears away at cartilage, which cushions and lubricates joints.

Instead, try a salmon burger. Salmon boasts the same meaty texture as beef but it's filled with beneficial omega-3 fats, which are shown to decrease arthritis-related aches and stiffness.

4. Tomatoes
Some people with arthritis swear that nightshade vegetables โ€” such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and peppers โ€” cause their arthritis to flare. While there aren't any studies to support a link between arthritis pain and most nightshades, tomatoes may be an exception. That's because they raise levels of uric acid. Elevated uric acid can trigger gout, a form of arthritis that targets the joints of the toes, fingers, wrists, knees, and elbows.

Instead, try other vegetables that aren't in the nightshade family. Vegetables are such powerful protection against arthritis that eating a produce-filled diet may reduce your risk of arthritic knees by 40 percent. Roast a big pan of vegetables, such as carrots, squash, and Brussels sprouts, and add them to salads, sandwiches, and grain dishes.

5. Sugary Drinks
When it comes to joint pain, what you drink may matter as much as what you eat. That's especially true if your glass contains fructose, a sugar found in soda, fruit drinks, and apple juice. One recent study found that people who sipped fructose-filled beverages at least five times a week were three times more likely to battle arthritis than those who chose sugar-free drinks.

Instead, try sparkling water or iced tea sweetened with a splash of orange juice. You'll get plenty of flavor, yet a fraction of the fructose.

In addition to steering clear of these arthritis trigger foods, don't forget to pay attention to portion sizes and calories. Keeping these in check can help you maintain a healthy body weight, which means less pressure on your joints and less discomfort for you.

How many mother's with babies under the age of 5 understand the the term kangaroo care as far as hypothermia (low body temperatures) are concerned? Or the importance of having paracetamol syrup in the house as far as hyperthermia ( fever) is concerned, or better still sugar and salty water for those who have no access to ORS solutions and zinc tablets in diarrhea management? Having knowledge in such can help save lives in case of an emergency...hence the importance of attending the pre and postnatal care until the baby is 5yrs of age.

Why would a nutritionist encourage you to go for whole meal flour? It's not because we just draw guys to expensive products, it's because the nutrient content retained in wholemeal flour is high. Secondly the wholemeal has bran which provides dietary Fibre that aids in digestion and lastly baked products from wholemeal flour have a pleasant flavor
