What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar Disorder is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These shifts can affect a person’s energy levels, activity, and ability to carry out daily tasks.

Types of Bipolar Disorder:

1️⃣ Bipolar I Disorder – Characterized by manic episodes lasting at least 7 days or severe episodes requiring hospitalization. Depressive episodes may also occur.

2️⃣ Bipolar II Disorder – Involves patterns of depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes (a milder form of mania), but not full-blown manic episodes.

3️⃣ Cyclothymic Disorder – Periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms lasting for at least 2 years but not severe enough to meet the criteria for Bipolar I or II.

Symptoms to Look Out For:
✅ Manic/Hypomanic Episode:
- Increased energy or restlessness
- Reduced need for sleep
- Racing thoughts and rapid speech
- Impulsive or risky behavior

✅ Depressive Episode:
- Persistent sadness or hopelessness
- Loss of interest in activities
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Difficulty concentrating

Bipolar Disorder is manageable with the right treatment, including therapy and medication. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, seeking professional help can make a difference.
